For those who don't remember the Volvo P1800 from a sliver of its front left fender....

Since this thread seems to be totally hijacked at this point, I would like to add that it's great to see so many people on this board who appreciate Volvo's!

Just as a matter of interest, the P1800 holds the Guiness World Book Record for the highest miles for a privately owned (non-fleet) vehicle at 2.6 MILLION MILES !

My name is Clive. And I am a volvo addict.

I had four or five 240 series Volvos back in the '80s... and loved 'em. Even had a 740 for a couple of years, and then my ex-wife ended up with it... what a fabulous car that was!

I bet none of you self-styled Volvo aficianados ever owned a Volvo 66! One of the most unusual cars ever to wear the Volvo badge, and one I had a lot of fun driving around Europe for two years !

I had to look it up on Wikipedia! The Volvo 66 3 door saloon sure resembled the VW squareback!

Ah, but the Volvo 66 transmission was in a class by itself!

I am glad that Inga has brought about such comments and strolls down memory lane. She is a 1966 Volvo with a push button start and a steerig wheel that is so round it skims the tops of your thigh. I have driven Inga for almost 20 years and she drives like a dream. It is truly a wonderful experience. I also drive a 1987 Volvo 240 DL station wagon named Annabelle. There have been 2 other Volvo's in my life, a 1964 Volvo 122 (Yellow Amazon) and a 1961 Volvo 544 (Sigsbee). Both are now in a better place thanks to other drivers I might add...

Anyway,

The Volvo 66 is originally a Daf 66.
Daf is a Dutch truck builder.
They introduced the Daf passenger car in 1959.
An important innovation was the so-called "Variomatic" transmission, an automatic transmission that didn't have any actual gears.
The transmission is now known as CVT
In the seventies the Daf passenger car division was bought by Volvo.

In 2004 Volvo sold their part in the Dutch Nedcar factory.
About the Nedcar factory: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NedCar

We owned (1983 - 2004): a 340, a 360, a 360 GLT, a 440
