Water Storage For Long Term Boonedocking - 275 Gallon IBC Tote

I have been seeing these used containers on Craigslist and eBay for $60 to $80. There are two types: Food grade and non-food grade and two sizes 275 gallon and 330 gallon. The food grade were used to ship liquids or juices intended for human consumption. They can be cleaned out and used for water transport/storage. Keep in mind 275 gallons of water weighs 2,293 lbs. If you like to spend extended periods of time boonedocking in the wilderness these might be for you. Here is an example on eBay:

FYI, there are also many pvc balloon bladders in the 100 gallon+ range that fit in the beds of pickup trucks, available on ebay.

We use 55 gal and 30 gal food grade plastic barrels for storing water when deer hunting . The barrels are white in color so to keep the water from freezing we paint the outside of the barrels black to absorb the heat of the sun

Those are bargain prices compared to new agricultural tanks. Yes, full they would overload many vehicles. You don't have to haul them full. Haul half full, whatever. For some situations, they could be topped off by shuttling 55 gallon water barrels, also food grade.

If you bought three of them, you could stack one on top of two metal pallet frames, and achieve gravity running water. At a cabin, not boondocking. that might also reduce wildlife nibbling (?). Maybe a fence around it.

Nice find for the right situation. Great way to store water for a rainy day. Well, you know what I mean.

I suppose they could also be cut on top to create livestock water tanks.

:in canada the food grade were all around $75 each now they are up to $150 and sometimes more with nothing done to them just the way they come empty.
Work great for pumping water from lake for washing dishes, showers, clothes washing etc. when full they just gravity feed the House. We buy our drinking water, because the lake is full of fish, ducks, loons, boats with motors, Sea Planes land on it so not all that good to drink.
