Angry Weather

On my way from MI to AZ and am stuck in an rv park in Yukon, OK. Ice everywhere and all over everything. Good thing I have heat, food, etc. I need water but the faucet handle is frozen shut. I'll call the office later. Staying a second day. Somehow being forced to stay an extra day is different than choosing to stay an extra day. I predict I'll survive.

WOW that's not a good thing. If there is that much ice you might be there for the winter till the ice melts? Long term weather forecast for there is below freezing for the next 2 weeks. That is why I summer camp only. Good luck in your trip and stay warm.

You're headed the wrong way if you're looking for warm weather! The Southwest has been unusually cold so far this winter. If you can make it to the low deserts, at least it's above freezing, but not exactly balmy.

I recall an ice storm that stretched from Arkansas all the way into New Mexico around this same date back in late 1983. I was moving to AZ to take my first job and traveling in a 1966 VW Beetle with a bed rigged up inside to save money. Spinouts and slide-offs littered the interstate. On the coldest night I splurged for a KOA off I-40 in Oklahoma. I woke up to single digit temperatures, a sheet of ice over everything, a quarter inch of frost inside the VW, and a dead battery. The campground owner kindly gave me a jump start and a fair bit of scraping got me on my way.

Stay put, stay warm, and best wishes in your journey to warmer climes!

Ginny's favorite winter location is FL. WE are presently in Central FL and it's been in the low 80's most days though we expect a few days with the highs in the 60's this weekend. It's almost always warmer enough to take a dip in the 84 F pool.

Note, FL is almost 900 miles from AL to the FL Keys so there's a lot of climate variation and people density differences. Most visitors gravitate to the coasts where the prices are higher and the density of people and traffic greater.

We seek calmness adn are in a very rural county.

Bob, like Dean said, hunker down and stay put. You don't wanna be messin' around pulling anything in an ice storm. Several years ago I pulled a goose-neck trailer home 20 miles in an ice storm because a friend was in need and ask me to help him get his horses back home safely. To this day, I don't know how I made it in a two wheel drive F150 and when I arrived home, Laura had already shoveled the driveway, knowing I was only gonna get one shot and getting parked in my 2WD truck. I love that woman still! Be safe and be warm and wait it out.

Wow, Bob, be careful down there. Tornados, floods, and lots more stuff in nearby Texas. Stay safe, because we want you back at Algonac in the fall

Hi Bob,

Your post makes me concerned for you with no water. Can you drive out of RV park to get some? Or a store in the park?

I live near Niagara Falls, NY and we are having a terrible ice storm tonight. But I'm home, not in my Scamp. Please keep writing to us so we know you're safe and alright, ok?

Wendy

I drove across the rest of OK, across TX, NM and into AZperfect but cool weather all the way. Arrived in Camp Verde this afternoon at them rv park where my wife and I have spent about 10 winters. To Jon in AZ, have wintered in AZ since 1995. Tried Florida and didn't like it. Stayed there a short time last winter and came over to AZ. I'm well that AZ is not Florida. That'why I come here.

Bob,

Glad to hear your wife and you arrived at Camp Verde safely. Happy wintering!

Dean

P.S. - Our 74 degree weather from a few days ago has turned to NORMAL and it was 49 degrees today. COLD compared to a few days ago. Still 49 ain't too bad!

Just me alone unfortunately. My wife passed away 2 1/2 years ago but you couldn't know that.
