we caught the Adventure Bug again (it's what prompted us to live in Central America in the first place) and decided to move back to the states to do some extensive sight seeing. Then we caught
Fiberglass Fever, which is an advanced stage of the Adventure Bug. Researched the heck out of this forum. Took us a year to get our ducks in a row and get the funds together to make the leap. Started seriously looking about 4 months ago. About three weeks ago a beautifully maintained 2003
Scamp went up
for sale a mere 500 miles (one way) from our proposed home base. We responded with interest within a few hours of its posting, only to find there was already an offer on it; so we put ourselves on the back up list. First deal fell through and we bought it sight un-seen from 3000 miles away. Not wise, perhaps, but it worked out well in this case. Last week we flew in to the states and hit the ground running with a list of possible tow vehicles from Craigs List. Found and purchased a Toyota Highlander V6 with factory tow pkg. Just got back from 1000 mile round trip to pick up the
Scamp, and we couldn't be more delighted. Trailer and vehicle are both in excellent shape, and make a good combo. Getting 15 to 18 mpg depending on hills, wind, and speed, and the trailer pulls like a dream.
I know it hasn't happened without pics (seems to be a forum rule), so have attached a couple of pics of the combo and of our very first camp site in Cibola Nat'l Forest in NM. We have some mods, updates and improvements to make, but they are pretty minor and we'll be making memories as we go about personalizing our new little home. Many thanks to all who contribute to this forum with their experience and advice: couldn't have done this without you!
