It's Dec.21, the day with the least amount of daylight if you live in the northern hemisphere. So to remind us of warm weather, long days and an enjoyable past time. What do you like best about camping?

I like being out of doors, the campfire and campfire cooking, hearing the coyotes sound off, the wild turkeys saying good morning to each other, the whole experience.

The very first rays of sunlight sihlouette our boat and the morning mist hanging over the lake as we get ready to go pick up the fishing jugs that have been out all night. It is very early in the year and we have the campground mostly to ourselves.

If it'll help commemorate this shortest of days, here's the time-lapse of my webcam. shot from the Scamp's back window.
Camping in the backyard is easy in an egg, it's an instant get-away.

There is nothing about a camping trip I dis-like exept that it has to end and we have to come home.
But the best time is at night, sitting around the campfire, cooking links of Polish Kilbasa on sticks, haveing conversation with wife and not being rushed about anything.

Going camping is a lot like doing without.
doing without the chores of keeping a home
doing without the hassle of the workplace
doing without the pressure of being on time
doing without the inlaws[hers and mine]
It's a time to renew,
A time to ourselves
A time together
Just us....and then...
Now life can co on again

It's an excuse to get out of the city, and away from the "madding crowd."

Fresh air, no schedule, naps, food cooked on the grill, listening to crickets, frogs and unidentified creatures at night, lying in the hammock...I love just about everything about camping!

FISH FRY !!
Golden, crispy, fresh caught, catfish !
Coleslaw, made from scratch, hush puppies, with deep fried home fries.
Family and friends around the picnic table, kids floundering in the water. A teen ager in a wet bathing suit slipping away with a large chunk of catfish, fresh from the cooker then streaking back to the water to their friends.

I remember when I was a kid my dad used to make Fried catfish and hushpuppies. I have not had those in ages! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. He also did frog legs in a white wine sauce. Funny how something can actually taste like a cross between fish and chicken. I remember when those frog legs got hot and started popping against the top of the pan lid. My dad and I were cracking up laughing. My sister thought it was gross and refused to eat them. Funny, the same sister ate Rocky mountain oysters, she actually thought they were from a rocky mountain stream. Well, that is until the ranchers kid, randy, decided to tell her entire 6th grade class that she ate cow testicals, but not quite in those words. My sister flew home on her broom that night and gave my dad a tongue lashing like you wouldn't believe. We all thought it was hilarious, she unfortunatley did not. Oh good family memories!
