I consider our front bunk model a gaucho too. "chesterfield?" If you have seen Scamps with front bunk, the top bunk makes the backrest. Many of us take off the top bunk to make a roomier bottom bed. That is my reading nook, the most comfortable place in the Scamp.
I suppose a gaucho really is a fold out, but I almost called the bunk a gaucho today. People probably aren't familiar with the word Chesterfield either.

A gaucho starts out as a couch. The backrest flips up to horizontal and with supports turns into a bed. Now you have a "bunkbed."
Does this description help?

but....but....it isn't a real word. It is a cowboy, or a pair of pants. It is not in the dictionaries I've checked!

The couch in our Bigfoot is called a gaucho. The board that the seat cushion rests on slides out and the backrest can then be laid flat and voila! you have a bed. No bunk bed really, although you can convert the upper cabinets to a bed for a child. Bigfoots with this arrangement are even called the "gaucho model".

That's Groucho Marx. A gaucho is an Argentine cowboy, I think.

Groucho!
We were playing trivial pursuit one night with wifes sis & her (then) husband... guys agains the gals
Our question was name all 5 Marx bros
The first 4 were easy - Groucho, Harpo, Chico and Zeppo.
We were stumped on #5. Bro in Law thought... Doesn't the other have a normal name? The girls started laughing. We thought of Karl (yuck, yuck) and finally gave up.
Yup - we were right. A normal name.... Gummo.

I've never quite understood how a fold-out RV couch got named after this fellow.

gau·cho noun \ˈgau̇-(ˌ)chō\
plural gauchos
Definition of GAUCHO
: a cowboy of the South American pampas
See gaucho defined for English-language learners »

Origin of GAUCHO
American Spanish
First Known Use: 1824
gaucho noun (Concise Encyclopedia)
Any of the nomadic and colourful horsemen of the Argentine and Uruguayan Pampas, who remain folk heroes famed for hardiness and lawlessness. Gauchos flourished from the mid 18th to the mid 19th century. At first they rounded up the herds of horses and cattle that roamed freely on the vast grasslands east of the Andes. In the early 19th century they fought in the armies that defeated the Spanish colonial regime and then for the caudillos who jockeyed for power after independence. Argentine writers have celebrated the gauchos, and gaucho literature is an important part of the Latin American cultural tradition.

Collapsible travel trailer beds are available in three configurations: a jackknife sofa that simply hinges in the middle from a folded seating position to a flat sleeping position, a sofa sleeper that stores a retractable extension and separate mattress beneath the sofa base, and a gaucho bed. A gaucho pulls outward into the travel trailer's living space from beneath the sofa, just like opening a very large drawer. The configuration of the sofa cushions is altered to create a sleeping surface rather than a separate mattress being used.

And just what does this say about our cowboy/gaucho friend? What are they implying??
