What is this?

I was in the tiny town of Walden Colorado on Wednesday. On the SE side of town was a small campground. The camper pictured below was parked there, plugged in, I think it’s a 16 ft boler but I’m certainly no expert. What say you?

My initial thought was Boler 17'.
Friend had one, and I'm sure he said it was a 17'. I tried to buy it off him when he retired from camping, but he'd already sold it.
I recall hearing him about a half mile from camp, dragging it down a forest service road full of boulders. The distance from the wheels to the rear bumper was considerable and I suspect he had left a lot of fibreglass trailing behind him.

I'm ready to bet the farm it's an older 16' Scamp ('80-'84, I'm guessing, based on the old-style jalousies and flat-back rear window). It's had some non-original updates, including the paint, decals, running lights, and radius bathroom window.

Boler didn't build a 16' egg shape trailer. The wheel well cuts definitely look like a Scamp, versus a Casita which have wheel wells that don't come down over the tire.

Check out the tail lights and window and vents. Don't think it's a Boler.

That is definitely a Flamingo Spaniel.

That, or a Laboratory Treebird.

Hmmm

Should have walked around it and took a few more snaps. Wasn’t thinking. And no tape measure with me. Story of my life. Well, have fun with it or drive to Walden CO and see for yourself. and if you do, get the Onion and Swiss Burger and the fries at the Moose Cafe. Your dog can eat on the patio and the lady server will bring fresh water in a stainless steel dog bowl for him or her. Excellent cold glass of water worth moving there from Flint for sure.
480 miles today, one 19 foot Scamp near Lincoln Nebr.

We just got back from Canada and we've seen so many odd fiberglass trailers I couldn't count all the brands. We saw one this color and I would guess it is Canadian or some brand that didn't last long. We had a good time seeing all the odd ones but never could get any pictures since we were driving.

Here's a picture of an '82 Scamp 16. It's a layout 3 (no bath), so it has a larger window toward the front but is otherwise identical to the mystery trailer, including the rear window, which was puzzling me a little.

The key I think, is figuring out the tail lights on the mystery trailer.

Too bad no frontal shot. I had a 82 S-16, it was loaded with options for the day. It had a slider window on the front as well as the rear. I vote for a 82 Scamp the lights were more than likely changed out with the paint job. Three trees was one of Scamps logo's but not like the one on this trailer.

No mystery there, I think. They're LED upgrades, not original. Oval taillights are common on utility trailers. I personally think the round ones look best on a Scamp, but that's just my preference.

Unlike Boler, Scamp's taillights have always been simple surface-mount units, easily and commonly swapped out, so you can't rely on them as a basis for identification.

It is a scamp. look at the three evergreen tree logo on the back of this trailer. it is the same logo that is on the spare tire cover on the current scamps trailer. If it is not a scamp it would be another brand of trailer (Acorn) built by Everland Inds. the builder of scamp

Everland's logo is the three evergreens (Christmas trees)

What is this?

The logo on the mystery trailer is an adaptation of the original Scamp 3-triangle tree logo. It's not from Scamp. I've seen a few other modern variations produced by Scamp owners.

Looking for something else, I stumbled across this thread. The white/turquoise trailer IS a 16 foot boler. I met the gal that owns it at the Boler 50th. That is HER trailer and she had all the documentation showing boler did build a 16 footer. I think I learn something new every day. Cool!

Guess that means I lost the farm. Drat!

Agree about learning something every day. Did you get a look at the documentation, Donna?Where did Boler build a 16’er? What year?

Hi Donna
Thanks for the information. When I saw this trailer last year, it was in Walden Colorado. It looked like it had been there for some time. Not abandoned or anything but like on a “seasonal” basis. Maybe not though, I didn’t get that close as I respect privacy. When we were in Boy Scouts whether to cut through or to visit another camper, we taught the boys to call out “Permission to enter the camp”. The response was “Come ahead.” It was etiquette not often seen these days. Every once in a while I point this out to people who “haven’t had the training”.
Hope you’re having a good summer. Keep educating us every day.

Just counted all the rivets in the picture. I'm guessing Scamp.

Rivet count is not exclusive to Scamp. Bolers and many of the clones and direct descendants, including Scamp and Casita, have rivets, lots of ‘em.

Hey... maybe there should be a contest at molded gatherings. The trailer with the highest rivet count wins... how about a power rivet gun? Do inside rivets count, or only those penetrating the outer shell? Sign me up!

Escape owners can judge the contest. :
