And I was not allowed to take typing. Only girls could take it. I had to teach myself from a vinyl record.

I can relate to that. When it was time for me to learn, I couldn't take Drafting or wood shop, I needed to take HomeEc and Library Science.
I still can't cook or sew and the Dewey Decimal system died long ago.

My wife took Latin.
No wonder we have trouble communicating.

My mom taught me to type before taking it in school. Typing 10 tied with Shop Class for my highest mark in school.

I wasn't allowed to take shop class in high school (60s) as I was on the college track; had to take typing. All my buddies took shop, and if you screwed up your project you got to add two grooves and call it an ashtray. Probably not on todays approved list of projects.......

Amusing aside - mother in law taught the same level class in school for 25 years before retiring. Father in law often said she was stuck in the 4th grade for a quarter of a century......

I find the state of education, or lack there of, more interesting than states as most are listed.......even the 3 states of Canada .

I honestly didn't know that happened but I have a feeling you are not joking. It's a real shame they did that and I'm glad they stopped segregating.
I was one of the ones who did take drafting in high school and vocational school and it landed me a career at a huge corporation I'm still at. I'm 50 now and hold my breath every year. If I got laid off at 50ish with no 4 year college degree, I'm screwed. On one hand that drafting class did well for me, on the other hand I give it a 50/50 shot to make to retirement at 60. All the new kids at work have degrees, get paid less, and they don't get a pension where I'm grandfathered in. They would love to get rid of me. I'm shocked I'm still there. But I do work hard and show up every day and that's hard to find too. Let me go back to holding my breath now.........
Oh yea so my highschool friend jokes that I took drafting and he took auto body "because he wanted to paint his car" and which was the smarter choice. Well, he and his wife are now retired at 47 both with 20+ years in the Air Force. I think they did well in the game! And they just bought a 21 Escape too to kick around in!

Hi All,
Was born in New York.
Grew up in Indiana.
Now live in Kentucky. Been here for 21 years now.
Also, lived in Tennessee, South Carolina, and Florida.
Hey Joe, I read earlier that you were originally from Brookville, IN. I lived and worked in Lawrenceburg, IN for a couple of years and traveled through Brookville for work from 1985 to 1987.
Take care,
Dean

Hi Dean, that's so cool. Yea in 84 and 85 I was working at Whitewater Canoe Rental in Brookville. A crazy place back in the day! Very familiar with Lawrenceburg. Love Rising Sun too!
If you ever need help with anything just yell. I still live in the area. And I have 2 good friends, one that bought my Casita and one that bought a new 21 Escape right here in the area too. We're all still friends from Brookville High School days! Good to see more FGRVs populating the area! What part of Ky are you in? Unless you'd rather not say on public forum, I understand completely!

Growing up as a Canadian air force brat, I lived everywhere. Born in Nova Scotia, lived in New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario and Minnesota before settling in Edmonton Alberta. My father got all the great postings like Moosonee Ontario , black fly capital of the world! I went to 3 high schools in 3 years in 2 different provinces and one state. With all the moving we still call Saint John, New Brunswick home.

I was an "academic brat", born in Georgia, moved to Wisconsin for dad's PhD, then Illinois, then Baton Rouge, and then I came back to Georgia for my MS. I feel like I grew up in Louisiana, but have the midwestern lack of accent.

I was born in Indiana (Dad was in France bombing the Germans). WW II ended and we moved to Kentucky, then to Texas, then to Japan, then to Georgia, then to Tennessee, then to Texas, then to Kansas and back to Texas. I've stayed in Texas for the last 53 years except for one year in Vietnam.
