Whats the BEST camping item?

One of my favorite items to take camping that cost under $10 is the cooking basket, the kind that flips open and you put over the fire to cook with. We have made so many good meals using just the basket.



Also if you have a lighter, you can open a beer.Pop the top with the end of the lighter...

Depends on where you come from. West coast or east coast.

Your choice of bottle openers is way more complex than west coast or east coast!

Here's a good-old-boy bottle opener. It's simple, unpretentious, and gets the job done.





And a bottle opener for the sophisticated wine drinker.





There are bottle openers for people who can't make up their minds.





And bottle openers for former Boyscouts who want to "be prepared."





For anything.





Thee are bottle openers for do-it-yourself-drinkers.





Bottle openers for Star Trek fans.





And the occasional high-tech type who isn't into Star Trek.





The color-coordinated fashion crowd has an accessory that compliments their wine.





You can crack open a brewski after robbing a bank.





There's an opener for drug addicts.





And for fierce Christians.





And last, though not least, the bottle opener for people who meet someone interesting on St. Patrick's Day in a Las Vegas supermarket, drink a case . . . or two . . . or three . . . in the parking lot, and wake up the next morning with a hangover and a wedding ring to commemorate their happy day.





And, yes, most of these are $10 and under.

My favorite item for $10 or less? A GOOD, sharp knife. Oh, wait...do they MAKE those for under 10 bucks? Ok...no.

How about...garage sale dutch oven. Yep - I can cook anything in a dutch oven. (If it's dessert!)

This one's not for everyone but it works for us.

A large meaty marrow bone to keep our food-hound occupied while we enjoy the company at FG gathering pot lucks.

Just ask anyone who's sat near us at one of these events.

I found a large coffee can the size of a TP roll and carry it to the toilet area in case the TP there has run out -- The can with plastic lid keeps the TP dry if it is raining a little (If it's raining a lot, and chilly, then I use the portly-potty, but I avoid that whenever possible as I am lazy and wish to avoid emptying it!).

BTW, if you have a bathroom and TP on a roll, squeeze the TP before putting it on the roller gizmo -- It is less likely to unroll on the road if it isn't round.

My item would be the $1.00 French Coffee Press from the church rummage sale, the $.50 tea kettle from the same sale, and a pound of Pierce Brother's Fogbuster coffe. Okay, that's $10.25, but pretty close.

My vote would be a pair of yellow plastic wheel chocks. And, the free check list to remind me to place the chocks before I unhitch. At least I didn't have the safety chains off yet (they saved the day). "But honey, it didn't look like much of a slope..."

A couple of little LED flashlights from Home Depot or Harbor Freight (I've found them at both stores) velcroed to the walls. Great pocket size. $6 lantern style flashlight from Wally World... can be set up on the table for "mood light" on lower setting, or carried to the bathroom at the cg. For some of the unlit bathrooms with lantern hooks, it's nice to have the handle....
