What's your big 2003 trip?

Ok, cold here, with snow on the ground, start of a new year.

Gives me time to reflect and plan the "big trip" of 2003.

Originally Pam and I were planning on spending two and a half months in the Canadian Maritimes ... we've been there before, but really wanted to spend a serious amount of time this time.

And then our youngest child (boy) got engaged and is planning an August 2003 wedding.

So, since Pam tells me we have to be around to watch his fiance shower (something to which I'm looking forward because she is really young and cute)(but Pam says I won't get invited to all the showers)(bummer) ... we're in the process of making new plans.

It looks like we are planning, now, to spend six weeks in Colorado, at favorite mountain-top campgrounds, with stops in Durango and Salida to visit friends.

And plan on being back in town for a month-plus of wedding
festivities.

Pam promises we'll be able to slip away mid-week to various Midwest state parks ... but the summer 2003 weekends are quickly slipping away as we plan for the glorious event.

So what are your travel plans and dreams for 2003?

Come on! Even you lurkers answer!

Even if you actually don't go, we won't hold it against you!

What are you planning?

Our BIG 2003 trip

:party Our big 2003 trip is what prompted us to get our "egg" in the first place. We have (had) no previous camping experience but two years ago my brother and his wife took a three month trip to Alaska in a Pickup camper and loved it.:laugh That got us thinking that we would like to do the same thing. Then one evening about a year ago we were watching an RV show on the "Home and Garden" channel and they showed the A-Liner camper. We thought that that would be just the ticket for us, :rhowever in researching them on the internet I discovered the Scamp & Casita sites and the attraction of the A-Liner began to fade.:reyes
We chose the Scamp mainly because it was much closer to where we live. To make a long story short we now have a Scamp fifth wheel parked on our patio and are all fired up about our Alaska trip. We have spent the past 6 months or so gathering together maps, supplies and travel info and feel that we are well equipped for our adventure. :yep We plan on leaving Wisconsin around June first and spend about two to three months on the road.:steer
As a warm-up trip we are going to the Scamp camp in Sebring, Florida Jan. 21 - 24, leaving here on the 17th.:sunny
And now you know the "rest of the story". :drums

Chester

I was in Regina for the first time in my life last August. I have 3 important words for you to consider: Mosquitos, Crickets, Grasshoppers!

(Trillions and Trillions of them too!)

:)

Sounds like everyone is gearing up for 2003 trips!

What about the rest of you?

Come on! Where are you headed ... or thinking about heading?

Nothing is too far when one wants to get there!

The freedom of travel opens the mind to unlimited possibilities!

Larry ... love your little signature 5th wheel / pickup icon. Really cute!

No big trips this year

My wife changed jobs, so no big trips for us this summer (although we've already allocated her summer vacation time for the FOLLOWING summer). Instead, I'll probably be taking the kids out on several shorter trips (long weekends basically) closer to home. Nothin' like Dad on his own trying to take care of two kids. What fun! :)

California, here we come, right back where........

As soon as Reserve America opened up July reservations on Jan. 2, we snagged camps at San Elijo State Beach and then to Carpinteria S.B. (The ocean is the only thing I miss, living in the mountains now.) As y'all know, we're really Californians who happen to live in Colorado.

By the way Charles, you're planning a ''finance'' shower for your future daughter-in-law? Wow! Before you're son sees that, you might want to edit it to read: ''fiance.'' That's a hoot! Gotcha!

Come to think of it, there's probably not much difference!:dance

Finance ... fiance

Well, I fixed it. Thanks George.

And you're right. If I'm going to watch someone shower ... I'd rather it be his fiance.

Although in the end, my son will be getting the "finance" soaking, especially if they have lots and lots of kids who give them the same trouble he gave his dear old dad. ha!

Naw, that's not true. He was a great kid ... and is getting a great girl.

Mike W >> closer to home

Maybe we should meet at Indiana Dunes or some Midwest distination. After we get back from our Colorado high, I'll be pretty much midwest bound myself.

summer holiday

We planned our summer holiday in England again. We 've been there many times. England is beautiful, the people are very nice (as you Americans, I hear from friends) and helpful. There are a lot of little campsites (max 5 caravans). Attractive old market towns and lovely villages. England is ideal for walking.
We 'll cross the North Sea july 17 and will stay there for 4 weeks. Hope is does not rain too much.
Last year we made wintertrip of 6 weeks to the south of Spain (7000 km). Very nice to escape a few weeks from the wet, cloudy and cold winter in Holland (sea climate).

Planning

I'll take a few local type trips between now and spring ... Okeefenokee Swamp in Georgia, the springs along the Suwannee River in northern Florida. Sebring is just too soon for me to manage!

Most of my travelling this year will involve staying in relatives'/friends' driveways -- midwest, New England (& Virginia &/or Carolinas while en route). Then in Sept. I go to Texas for the 'One Arm Dove Hunt' -- a national gathering of arm amputees. It is held in a wonderfully friendly small town which adopts us and is an addictive event. More driveway-stays going and coming.

I'm hoping to start feeling more adventurous about destinations. Going to unknown/untested places seems daunting on my own, and I'm too prone to 'pass' and head on to cousin-whoever's home.

camp outs

Paul, I think a trailer first would be a good idea, otherwise you will have to throw your blanket behind the truck on the ground.

Larry, you've gone blond. and that is an excellent signature picture. thanks to Charles for mentioning it so I would look again.

This sounds boring after everyone elses, but it's all mine. The only thing I have planned is what I do every memorial week-end, and that is the 3 day to 1week camp out for the pow wow. AND maybe the trip to Turkey Creek in MO in June. if all goes well, I'll branch out. if you need a place to stay in northern OK, come see me.
<img src=http://www.fiberglassrv.com/board/uploads/3e1a0f30ea23bsnowdeer1.jpg/> The snow is gone now, by the way. This was Christmas Eve Day, 2002. off the front porch.

Our big 2003 trip

:wave Our big trip this year will be to pull "Sunny Side Up" from Louisiana to Carlisle, PA with our 1965 Corvair Monza to the Corvair National Convention and show. We drove it to Flagstaff, AZ for the Nationals last summer and had a great time on the old Route 66 alignments. Hoping to take our time and just putt along having fun. We'll do many more "close-in" outings (probably pulling behind our conversion van or truck, but the trek up north will be our "biggie" for the year.:wave We had originally planned to build a teardrop for this trip, but the "lure of the egg" was just too much, especially when Diane and pups fell in love with it!

Drumheller Alberta

If you have kids and you like paleontology go to Drumheller Alberta. The BadLands!

Stay at the Dinosaur RV park just down the road from the museum. No $$ interest in the park, just a good place to stay. Go after July 01 and the little ones can go out on the actual digs with the paleontologists !
