When do you un-winterize?

I'm in central South Carolina and was wondering how soon do you all drain the antifreeze?

hahahahaha, we're just getting into winter here in the Pacific NorthWET. I dewinterize sometime in April. Could do it typically mid-March, but there's nothing typical about our weather anymore.

I would "un- winterize" when the early Spring temps. were in the 50's. We live in Salem SC (UP-state). At those temps the winter frost and freezing should be over.

We dewinterize the weekend of Wisconsin's fishing opener or around the first Saturday in May but only if frost is not predicted. We winterizing at the end of September or the first part of October depending on if snow is predicted. Some years we just leave it winterized all year cause Summer is so short here

I remove the anti freeze when ever the weather forecast is predicted to stay above freezing. Here in Vancouver that could be as early as mid February or as late as early April.

Up here. we have 9 months of winter and three of 'tough-sledding'. But, we un-winterize (i.e. - put away the long johns) somewhere about May. Like Steven we often just leave the TT anti-freeze in place - and bring along the 'Walking Johnny' anti-freeze if we do any winter camping.

If the ice is out on the lakes, my Scamp is de-winterized. Maybe sooner.

Trying to de-winterize too early can be a big gamble. My location in the far north of NY on the Vermont boarder can be very tricky....I have seen big snow in April and early spring temps in March...every year is a suprise.

I like to head south in very early spring at a slow pace....problem is many campgrounds don't open until late April or even May....you have to travel as far south as southern Pennsylvania before you find one open with running water.

Short answer is, as always, when you think winter is over and water won't freeze and burst your plumbing.....or you can always run heaters to keep temps in your RV above freezing. My unit has a sealed under carriage with insulation and ducted heating below the floor. That keeps the holding tanks and plumbing above freezing but burns a lot of propane....most travel trailers do not have this feature so even heat is not always the answer.

Hi CharlSara,
We are close, just up the road as the crow flies! Have you ever camped at Devil Fork Sate Park on Lake Jocassee? This is in Salem, SC. Beautiful area.
My and I will drive to Tx. 2/10/15 to pick up our Casita. Lil Snoozy is a great camper also. Sure we have been a lot less driving than going to TX!!!!! Maybe we can get together sometime and compare coaches....

To summerize when one flushes the anti-freeze depends where the trailer is located.
And, I notice that many members of this forum do not indicate their location in their profile. That bit of information is helpful in many threads.

Sure, Lake Jocassee is on my list of places to visit. Big trout, clear water and boating on mountain tops. Oh yes.

When do you un-winterize?

We have not camped at Devils Fork but I Have been there and it is gorgeous. We got our Lil Snoozy last July. We went on a couple of overnights to check out the trailer, then a four week trip west. It was our first taste of the TT life and we loved it. I am sure you are going to like the Casita. Maybe we will see each other around soon.
