Where to Buy American Gasoline

My husband, having worked in the oil well industry, likes to send me these sort of articles. I have actually shortened it.

Exxon /Mobil........................ 130,082,000 barrels
Marathon/Speedway............. 117,740,000 barrels
Amoco................................... 62,231,000 barrels

Here are some large companies THAT DO NOT import Middle Eastern oil:
Sunoco..........................0 barrels
Conoco.........................0 barrels
0ASinclair.....................0 barrels
BP / Phillips................. 0 barrels
Hess..............................0 barrels
ARC0.............................0 barrels
Maverick........................0 barrels
Flying J.........................0 barrels

They buy it form Shell, Chevron, Exon, etc.
Go back and check out who owns the processing plants and who they supply.

When I was working for Brown & Root we were working on an oil collection and processing system for Hess. It was in the Persian Gulf. The Arab and Hitte formations. The Hitte is sour crude and we were removing water and hydrogen sulfide. I bailed when they wanted me to go there and monitor the installation of the corrosion control and monitoring system I designed. Too hot for me.

Cyndi......
Thanks, I copied and printed out that list and it is going into both my vehicles. This country needs all the help we can give it.
Any chance you can ask him about BJ's Wholesale club to which i belong?

James:
I just read your post after i printed it out..... i need to investigate more or maybe someone here can add to this as i have been looking more for "Made in America" which is getting hard to find. I seen a large Mega Container ship that brings goods in to here from china to wal-mart etc and it goes back empty. They don't seem to want our products there.

Also, just because it is not from the middle east doesn't mean it's any better oil. How about Venezuela, remember Hugo Chavez, Valero?? We don't use our own oil in the US, we sell it to Japan for the most part.

I get dozens of forwarded email "reports" a day from friends. Sadly, the majority are inaccurate, unfounded, or incorrectly attributed, though perhaps with a grain or two or truth imbedded in the "mess" of rhetoric.

I used to send replies to these. I don't any more. The volume of "stuff" without real background statistics and data is overwhelming.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet, is my advice.

Less than 40% of gasoline sold in the US originates from the US. The remaining 60% is split between Canada, Venezuela, and the Middle East. Very generally speaking, the distribution is somewhat geographic, with Venezuela's supply going to the Gulf Coast, the Middle East mainly to the US East Coast, and Canada supplying the rest.

I have spent years in the industry, and all, and I repeat, ALL, retailers have exchange agreements to supply each other's filling stations. The special "secret" additives are just part of the loadout procedure. Just go to your neighborhood refinery and see the logos lining up to take on loads! There is just know way to be sure where the gasoline or diesel in a filling station's tanks came from.

In San Diego, CA gasoline comes from Los Angeles via pipeline to one storage and distribution center, the Mission Valley Terminal, a.k.a. the "Tank Farm" next to Qualcomm Stadium. Most of the trucks that transfer the fuel from there to the county's service stations are independent operators, and few have Major Brand Logos on them. Today, gasoline is a generic commodity, brands are just marketing.

We buy from companys that are local owened. Fuel comes from Bills( is in our county only), then Holiday (which is a Minnesota based company). Target and never Walmart. Keeping our money local is one way we can all help our local jobs

Target is a Minnesota based company, and a publicly traded stock. The Frebch ownership is a urban legion.

What really depressed me was when I found out the big three US beer companies are now foreign owned...Coors, Miller, Anheuser-Busch. I don't know which other ones...I'm hoping Yuengling, my new favorite beer is still owned by a US company.

Yes it is brewed up here in Pennsylvania- must be the Monaghela River that gives it that taste, actually there is a Yuengling Brewery in Tampa now!!

Joe no can of worms on that topic. I spent *many* years as an operation superintendent for deep sea vessels and the issue of no back haul to asia has been a problem for **decades**! There are back hauls that do happen but they are mostly forest products - pulp and wood products that usually go via a bulk vessel rather than container ship - what is containerized usually just gets put on deck of the bulk carrier. But forest products export is another segment of export from N/A that is declining.

The OP has found another e-mail urban legend. Isn't it amazing how people believe everything that shows up in their inbox?

Anyway, Snopes.com is a great place to get the truth. Here's the explanation on the above:

Check out Urban Legends at: Gas Boycott (Saudi / Middle Eastern Oil) - Urban Legends

As other suggest this list may not be all that correct. The list has been floating around since at least 2001 and at the time it first made the rounds there was evidence it was incorrect.

Urban legions suggest in part that only three of the companies on the list for allegedly not importing Middle Eastern oil belong on the list: Sinclair, Sunoco and Hess. Suspect that today that may well also be out of date.

Might suprise a few that today it is in fact Canada who is the biggest supplier of oil to the USA (along with power and water to the US its our biggest export). Its our way of being a good neighbour and balancing things out due to all the great USA manufactured goods we import.

Hi: All...Canada has a quota to fill under NAFTA. If we don't use our supplies we have to buy them somewhere else!!! I hope this doesn't qualify as a closer.
