I know we all love our Parks, and the following is some what political, this folowing link may suprise many of us. I don't know if the term "own" is appropiate, maybe "control" is better. I worked in Sunlight basin during the mineing fiasco. The gold mine near the park would have done no harm to the surrounding area. It would have been a boon to local economies and the state of Wyoming. In that particular area the states of Montana and Wyoming, as well as many residents, would have been a watchdog force to ensure no harm would have came to the ecology.

Just a comment about Wiki[anything], don't believe everything you read. Wiki[anything] is a free forum and can be edited by anyone... whether with truthful facts or not. Usually a knowledgeable individual will spot "untruths" and correct the mistake, but if you read and believe you may be lead astray. Wiki[anything] are not encyclopedias nor anything even close to be valid. Just ask all the school kids that have been nailed by a teacher or two when writing term papers or essays and use Wiki[anything] when researching facts.

Rant off.

Donna rocks! rant or no rant!

I use Wikipedia quite often. I look for argument and or "the neutrality of this article is in dispute".
If there has been argument in the past but none in the last six months I pretty much accept what I read as a reasonable expression of fact.

Five minutes on Google and you find out a lot of things. The author, Amy Ridenour and The National Center for Public Policy Research, are a platform for her and her husband's conservative views. She is the president and he is the vice-president.

Always keep in mind where the information is coming from.

The National Parks (and not all of them are Parks, some are Monuments or Historical Sites and have different status and rules) are each subject to the laws under which they were established -- Some are barred from ever charging admission, for example -- Some set up their own laws and some use the laws of the surrounding state or states (or choose one of them) -- Isle Royale NP, for example, requires a state fishing license to fish in Lake Superior, but no license to fish in the lakes and streams on the Island.

The US Gummint owns Yellowstone, but agreed to abide by UN Heritage Site rules with the 1972 treaty -- The UN doesn't own any of the parks and only 'controls' certain aspects of the Sites. The reverse is true, although the UN owns the Headquarters in NYC, it has agreements with the USG about some affairs -- "However, the United Nations is bound by an agreement with its host country to prevent its Headquarters from being used as a refuge for persons who are avoiding arrest under the federal, state or local laws of the United States or who are required by the Government of the United States for extradition to another country or who are trying to avoid the servicing of a legal process." Works both ways.

Good response, Brian. The tone of this article would encourage one to look further......

Theirs is a conservative platform as Snopes is husband/ wife liberal platform laying claim to truths and such. Which have been biased and some times proven to be false.
