I see all the comments on beer, above, and such are duly noted: but it cannot explain the concept of Coors Lite.... "Dude, is the beer cold yet" "I dunno - what color is the mountain?"

Hi: Francesca Knowles...Yes the CFL plays real football!!! Seems the Americans didn't like our style as we had bigger balls and a different number of downs. We ceded the ball size but wouldn't give up on the downs.
Knee socks are an issue of individual support more likely to show up on a baseball diamond.

OK, now that I have put my beer down, and on the ninth page, I will try to address the OP's question.
I think that Canada has much more wilderness per person. As such our relationship with it is a big part of our lives. The fact that small fibreglass trailers seem more popular here then in the US is, I think, a function of our slightly more practical nature. Winter is rough on things and we recognize the durability of fibreglass. We have to pay more then Americans do for most things, so we want them to last. We travel longer distances to vacation in this vast country, so gas consumption is also important.
It's funny. I understand that Bolers were around in larger numbers then Trilliums, but I don't have any childhood memories of Bolers. On our 9 hour drives to the cottage on Manitoulin Island, I remember many Trilliums. Maybe it was the Logo being the same as the official flower of Ontario, or maybe the design just struck a chord with me. But what ever the reason, the seeds of my current obsession were sowed early.

In Canada we have three popular games all often referred to as football. Only 1 of them uses nets & a round ball.

When the one dollar coin was introduced and "coined" the Loonie, I was ticked. Sounded foolish. Then we followed up with the Twoonie. All was lost.
However you get used to these things and they eventually blend with every day speech. For instance if I'm looking for some spare loonies and twoonies I'll check the pouch in my bunny hug.

Loonie and twoonie's do come in handy at Timmy's to Roll up the rim or buy a jambuster or if your heading to the Depanneur to buy a seltzer. Or if your a Newfie or a cod chocker you can toss them out a folks that are mummering at Christmas.

Oh, (hand in the air) I can translate part of it!!
Timmy's is Tim Hortons and if you roll the rim up, it has a free coffee, or donut or other such freebie. A jelly filled donut is a jambuster. Newfie is someone from Newfoundland and mummering is similar to going christmas caroling in the US, but except wearing garb and constumes. I do not know about the rest of the words, though... but not bad for a fudgesucker troll from under da Bridge here in da big Mitten...

Very sorry Frederick, but that is secret Canadian code. Unless you hold citizenship in Canada, you are not allowed to know what she is saying.

Hi: Des Nolan... I can't wait till they intro the $5. coin, then do away with the "Penny". It costs more than a penny to make a penny and we all know how Harper likes to "Pinch 'em" EH!!!

My 10 year old American born and raised nephew came to visit us in Turkey. We went into the market in town. After a while he turned to me and exclaimed "they don't speak American here"
I almost broke up for two reasons; one, because of his new insight that the rest of the world isn't just like America and two, I'd never heard the term "speak American" before
This is a great thread, really enjoyed it.

Pam pleased to say that your citizenship to the Great White North is being seriously considered but due to not getting it all I might suggest that a quick refresh of your high school french might be needed prior to final approval.
BTW to the rest of the country those of us on the west coast of BC are known as a Left Coast Tree Huggers
Frederick - you need to visit Canada more often! We could discuss the translation over a little beaver tail or poutine and a little double double or a two-four to wash it down, which ever you prefer.

I am proud to be Canadian, but I don't do Tim Hortons nor drink Molson.
I fail to understand the appeal of either of them.

I will grab a Timmies, but only if I am on the go and need a fix. I usually prefer a privately owned coffee shop if I can find one though. All this is rare though, because I brew at least 98% of all the coffee I drink.
As far as beer goes, I mix it up all the time, but never drink offerings from Molson. If that was my only option, then of course I would. It is not bad, it is just that there is sooooo much better.
