Will there be $5.00 gas in 2011?

Lots of news stories about it this month. It may get a lot more expensive than that. I will have to make some adjustments. Happy New Year anyway.

Lots of folks will disagree but I think it will be higher. Maybe $6.50 by summer. Higher gas means food and dry goods will cost more.

It's $3.56 at a station in Chicago today. Our local BP in Oak Park is at $3.48 for regular. I think we'll fill up tomorrow in Wisconsin when we visit our daughter.

The nice thing about having the trailer is that we can take short trips to interesting places just as well as taking long trips. Our trip around Lake Huron last summer was an example of staying closer to home rather than heading way out west or to the east coast. We also have some great canoing rivers within a day's drive.

Gas prices tend to shoot up at certain times, but then they drift back down. The problem is they never go back down to where they were originally. I'm guessing that gas might be $4 a gallon in some areas, but then stabilize back down around $3 or $3.50. I've always wondered if this is a psychological ploy by the oil companies.

Gas prices in Vancouver have been over $1.20 per liter this week, thats like $4.50 a gallon!

Rising gas price is perhaps the greatest reason we keep "Scamping" rather than upsizing to something larger that might seem potentially more comfortable.

We have weighed the option of restoring our old '70 26ft Avion, but we kinda' like the Scamp better being smaller, lighter weight, easier to tow and less fuss!

Besides that, our present older TV's pull the Scamp without a grunt, but would be just marginal for the larger trailer. When we consider the cost of a new (or newer) and larger TV, the rise in fuel cost, even at $5.00 and more is negligible.

You know I thought my trips to Alaska 9,600 miles for a gas cost of a little over $2,000 and then my Great Lake 11,500 miles for a cost of $2,900 was a lot.

Well, I can guarantee you that I'll not be going to the Maritimes as I'd love to if gas prices go higher than $4.50. I just estimated that the trip would require about 1,000 gallons of gas because it'll be in the neighborhood of 15,000. $4,500 is not what I want to pay to start with.

I think the Pacific Northwest is going to see a lot more of me. Actually, I may spend more time about 60 miles or so up the hill at the Forest Service campgrounds. And hope I will be able continue to use the Golden Price for years to come. You never know that may change too.

I wondered when the devaluation of our dollar was going to come back to bite us. I've been talking about it for several years, even before the 2008 economy problem. They use US dollars to purchase cude oil. So everyday our dollar goes down oil goes up.

Any way, we are at $3.25 here and Christmas/New Years is not a time where gas is generally high. So I vote that it's only going to get higher and by summer will be $4.75.

I've been debating moving from a 4 cyl Tacoma to a 6cyl. This thread has helped my decision making.

It will likely include at least two substantial federal tax increases.
That should make you feel a little better, until you research two things...
1] What they actually spend it on.
2] The fact that the individual state fuel tax pays the vast majority of the cost for their roads.

I have heard, entertained, and understand every concievable argument for using fuel tax on cars and trucks to fund mass transit, and I come down on the side of opposition.
I am not aware of a single mass transit system in which the passengers pay the fuel tax on the fuel consumed<_<

Even at today's prices, we will likely be making our Florida trip in February with our 4CYL. Escape instead of our 4L Ranger. The 5-7MPG difference will save around $130 in fuel costs.

Hi: All...Price here is $1.15 a ltr. X4= a US. gal. The oil annalist's keep telling me gas is cheaper now, than when I payed $0.50 a gal. in the 60's... but I don't feel it.

Hey Alf, it was only .25 cents per gallon here in California in 1963 when I bought my first car an MG Midget. That's 1300% increase to date divide that by 50 years and you only get a measly 26% a year. I'd like a 26% raise in pension and social security a year.

The cost of gas has a lot to do with why we have a Scamp and not a bigger trailer or RV.

I expect the price will go up. There is a lot of evidence that suggests that oil field production has peaked, and production is unlikely to increase, and this is happening as many people in China and India are starting to drive cars and consume oil as we do in the West. As their per capita income rises, demand for the world's shrinking oil reserves will increase competition and prices for the stuff.
