Trailer: Outfitter Michiganni Truck Camper and 13 ft Scamp
Posts: 23
Hi All:

We think we want an egg trailer. We currently have an Outfitter pop-up camper on a mini truck. But before we commit to this type of trailer, I'm hoping to find someone who lives in the San Diego area willing to give me a tour of theirs. We've looked at a lot of photos online, but want to get a real sense of the physical space a 13' egg has. If possible, I'd like to see one with the little bed in the front as opposed to other options.

Warmly,
Leata

Leata, you should also contact the manufacturers. Most, if not all, keep records of owners who are willing to show their trailers to prospective buyers. Click this link: All Current Trailer Brands. Bigfoot hasn't started back up yet... and neither has Oliver. But Bigfoot nor Oliver were making 13 footers when they ceased operations anyway. Be sure especially to contact Scamp, Casita, Escape and Trillium RV.

Best of luck in your search!

Thanks, Donna, for the suggestion to contact the manufacturers. I hadn't thought of that.

Casita had quicky reply with a reference about 1 hour 15 minutes away and it was not the model we wanted to see. Scamp was a little slower to reply, but had a reference only 15 minutes away and it was the model we wanted to see. We got to see it the other day. Yeah!

So, what did you think? Is the size, etc. going to suit your needs?

Leata and Bobby, even if you are not able to see the "model" or the "size" you are looking at. You should still check out the different options, it gives you an idea of what different manufactures have to offer. Even looking at older/resale trailers helps you decide on what a great fit for you. Best of Luck on your search.

Yes. I had been worried it would seem small; however, even though it has less bed surface area and inside height, it has more floor space than our Outfitter pop-up camper. I think the storage will be easier to access too. One great advantage will be permanent access to the contents just by opening the door. In the pop-up there is a lot of storage space inaccessible (under the big bed) when the top is down. Again with the floor space: There will be more room to maneuver myself when I'm storing or getting to items in those spaces with floor level doors, never mind someone being able to go past the chef at the stove. The Outfitter is great for the very tall because of that headroom. Even the upper cabinets are hard for me to reach when the top is up. Also, for me, the area farthest forward under the big bed is quite hard for me to reach, but would be easier for tall folks.

I've always liked trailer camping because of the ease of taking day trips with the tug. We switched to pop-up truck campers years ago for a variety of reasons I'd have think about for a while to remember (we didn't have or even know we would have a kid then). But with our daughter growing out of the seat/contraption her dad made in the back of the extended cab, we needed to come up with something that could carry her and probably a friend. Hence, the plan for an SUV or crew cab mini truck pulling a light trailer.

I will be curious to know if I get everything I have stored in the Outfitter into a 13' egg. But if I don't, I'll be happy to trim down "stuff."

Thanks for your help Donna.

Leata,
I have a Hunter I, it is a 1974. I don't know if you want to see one that old, but if you do contact me and I will show you mine. (email through this site)
