Winter Finally Comes to New Mexico

Thought I would share a few pictures of my newly restored 1976 Burro. She has a new floor and sub-floor, new electrical system, new propane system, new paint job, new hitch, new lights, and a new door lock. Here she is parked in my driveway covered in some unfamiliar cold, wet, white, "stuff" that fell from the sky. We think it's snow but we're not sure. I don't think I'll be camping this weekend!

If anyone plans on coming through New Mexico this Spring or Summer please let me know. There are some great camping spots in the Jemez and in Northern New Mexico!

We're not complaining. We're doing a happy dance! The moisture is much needed out here. Hang in there... it's March now. Spring will come!

I might get over that way this summer, on my way to/from the Tetons. I want to follow the Rockies north and south to take advantage of the coolness and scenery.

If you know any nice boondocking spots in the mountains, I'm always interested.

Seems the mid to upper sections of New Mexico have been having a pretty snowy winter. We have even had some in southern part of the state as well.

Snow in the Las Cruces area last month (Organ Mountains), we received more in Las Cruces:

Mike; in researching a fishing trip, I discovered some NFS campgrounds near Lake City, CO with a couple free and some for as little as $5 per night. Check out Gunnison River and North Fork of the Gunnison area.

Mike, a nice NFS campground, very high elevation, just above Chama, NM in Colorado:
Trujillo Meadows but Not Dispersed Camping.

Near Santa Fe: Santa Fe Nat'l Forest

Dispersed Camping in Carson Nat'l Forest: Laguna Larga

Thanks... I probably should have said "free boondocking spots" to be more specific. But under $10 is pretty darn good, too!

On the other hand, having been to Trujillo, Peru, I might have to visit Trujillo Meadows just on principle. The CG is sure to be more my style.

I've loved northern New Mexico since my trip to Philmont as a Boy Scout nearly 50 years ago. We have made a handful of trips over the years to Santa Fe NF, Taos, Red River, hiked Wheeler Peak, and our son's first backpack trip was Frijoles Canyon at Bandelier at age 6.

This is the year we are going back for more, around Labor Day I think! So any ideas are welcome. We'd like to work in Chaco Canyon...and go to Wild Rivers which I don't think was called that the last time we were there.

Glenn and Candy
