Wireless Thermometer

My car came with an "outdoor" thermometer. My pickup with which I tow does not have one. Frankly, I enjoy being able to know the temperature while I am tooling down the road. Apparently there are after-market wireless thermometers available, but after doing some web surfing, I am wondering how accurate and dependable they are.

Does anyone have any experience with these?

Where is the outside sensor mounted so as to get a good reading? (I am amazed at the accuracy of the one on my car).

My use for a wireless thermometer was not to measure the outside temp., but rather to monitor to inside temp of my freezer compartment of the trailer. I usually travel with the fridge off, and on long runs on hot days, wanted to ensure that contents would not thaw. I was able to monitor from my tv, and found the readings to be quite accurate.

My Toyota 4Runner has a factory outside temp guage, and the receiver is mounted somewhere behind the front bumper so it is out of the wind and direct sun.

If your main purpose is curiosity about air temperature anything that's made to withstand outside the vehicle will work. Remember that it a pretty nasty environment out there. If you're trying to use it to determine the road surface condition or possibility of ice, forget it. There is no correlation between road surface temperature and air temperature. I have seen as much as 25°F difference between air temperature and road surface temperature, 12°F to 15°F difference is very common.
