Yes, my retirement is decided.

I will be retiring in May next year. We are planning our first summer without me teaching. We will make some short trips next summer, but we do plan to do one of my bucket list items. We are huge Harry Chapin fans. His brother, Steve, owns a campground in Nova Scotia on the ocean, Ovens Park. The family does a yearly concert at the campground. We plan to attend this.

We are also planning to make Algonac next year, although we only missed a couple of them. Our daughter bought us Cubs tickets for this year that had to be that weekend. Afterwards, we will make Niagra Wine for next year, if our plans happen as desired.

BTW, Kevin fixed our brake issue that took a local RV place 12 weeks to not fix it. They did put in new brakes and rewire, but they could not finish the connection. Kevin picked up the camper and fixed the final connection issue. He has also been replacing the skanky 30 year old carpet and the vinyl in the kitchen area. So we will be good to go.

One of the best concerts I ever attended. Just Harry Chapin and a gentleman playing cello as I recall. What a loss.

Good luck on the retirement. You will soon wonder how you had time to work.

We never saw Harry Chapin in concert, but we did see Steve's band several years ago near Chicago with Big John Wallace and a few of their kids who made up the band. Bought a "Harry, It Sucks!" T-shirt.

I think that this is what we will be doing for a while, as we have 5 rescue cats. Three come with us, but one of those does not get along with one of the 2 we leave behind. They are all elderly, so it is a matter of time before we can take off for an extended trip.

In the future, we will take the Silver Cloud south for the winter. I have Dupuytren's and Ledderhose disease, and my hands and feet do not like the cold.

It's great to have a plan Cindy and nice to see you're now on the countdown. You'll find retirement is one of the hardest jobs you've ever had! I'm so dang busy, I need to look at a calendar to figure out what DAY it is!

I hope your retirement is very long and very healthy

I saw Harry back in college (a few years ago....). Loved his music ever since! I too would like to attend the family gathering.

Alf, the Niagra rally is on our list for next summer, now that I won't have to teach classes.

This was the concert a few years ago. I think that they hold it in a local hotel now for one night. It features Steve Chapin and his band that includes Big John Wallace, Tom Chapin and his daughters band, and Harry's daughter.

The campground belongs to Steve Chapin. They say frequently you find him in the hotel playing and singing, where they have music every night, I think.

I'm curious. Looking at pictures of your Bigfoot I was wondering if you took out the stock furniture and put home style recliners in you RV instead. They look so comfortable.

Hi Cindy,

Congratulations on your retirement countdown. Wishing Kevin and you years of camping fun and a long retirement!!!

I can retire June 30, 2020, but hope to have 30 years in “the system” and retire at 60 by December 31, 2022. After 22 years of 12 month administration that ended June 30, 2018, summers off and a 9 month contract has been nice. I think I have enough left in the tank to work full-time to the end of 2022!

Keep us posted on the Silver Cloud mods.

See ya,

Dean

And what is great, I don't have to fret anymore about the dates for the McGregor Rally, at least I don't think so. The dean said at our meeting on Friday that there were 4 retiring, at which I interrupted and said, "Excuse me, that is 5." I don't have my retirement contract yet, but it is coming. He said, that since one faculty member is retiring in December that he wants to have a celebration for all at that time, so I don't have to worry about May, although it may be a problem with our Xmas trip to Texas.

Thanks, Dean! The university is giving me an offer that I cannot turn down, and it might not happen again if I wait. I am older than you and will be fully vested in SS in April. I am ready to end these family weekends when everyone else can play with my grandkids while I have to get ready for classes like happened yesterday!
