Yet another reason to love our lil glass trailers

My only thought is , You have to be kidding me!

I have driven a Class A MH all over the country and never pulled this stunt! Always had to be aware of bridges, over passes etc. Now owning the Casita I basically don't have to worry anymore. But why, WHY wouldn't you be leary and get out and check before you even attempted to drive through?

I work for one of the big four transportation companies in the world. You'd be surprise how many trailers we have to repair a year due to "hair cuts." OMG. Damage to a trailer is minor compared to what "we" have to pay to repair bridge and road damage.... I think "WTF" is a pretty common statement I hear from our "risk" group...

I know how tall my trailer is... and my tug. Do you?

you would be surprised at how few people know how tall their rv is. let alone know what that yellow sign with the numbers on it thats nailed to the bridge means. and clearly,,,this fellow was a bit surprised too.

I do pretty much in feet and inches. Even though we have been metric up here in the great white north I would have to be doing a quick guess as to how high 2.6m equated to. Yeah, it's a little over 8 1/2 feet.

There was one truck here in town a few years ago where the helper got out and checked the bridge as they went under with a load, they cautiously cleared it. On the return trip they forgot that being empty would make them sit a bit higher. It was a nice trim off the top on that one.

Baron, I had seen that video before! Yet another, Are you kidding me?

Roy, I had heard of that before, where with a load they sqeezed under, but without they didn't.

I am nervous just driving my vehicle in a Parking garage! I tell myself, they make it tall enough , but I still feel like my truck is gonna scrape!

Can't imagine tooling down the road at speeds and driving under a overpass that you don't fit under!

The previous owner of my van, which is taller then my Trillium 4500, put a label from a label maker on the dash with the height of the van in feet and meters. Very thoughtful.

At least he had the presence of mind to do it across the street from an Auto Zone.

You raise a good point. It's helpful to measure the rig w/tv and post the information on a label inside your glove box.

In our travels that information has been useful at least twice.

1. Zion Tunnel for escort.
2. BC Ferries.

What, you mean so that he could go across the road afterwards and get some rubbing compound to polish out the scratches?

Good point! I don't know in specific numbers. And my new vent is 4+ inches higher!!

But I do have pretty good spacial/3D sense, and the good sense to stop and look if if seems even slightly iffy.

Cool Bridge Work

Like the bridge that was six inches lower than the posted sign because of subsequent repavings? Actually the bridge was in the same place. The road was made higher.

Other places are just disaster magnets. Like this bridge:
