1988 14-ft Liberty Camper (Similar to Amerigo) Price reduced to $3,500

1988 14-foot Liberty Van Companion Camper by Columbus Coach Works / Similar to an Amerigo

Located in Janesville Wisconsin

The camper has gone through some remodeling but still plenty of room left for your touches. A very solid camper. Door has new screen and does not sag. Rides well; no bearing issues. The inside had been stripped down and the beginning of the remodel has been started (but can currently be used in the condition it is in now). The tiny toilet closet has been converted to a storage closet with shelves.

Has original cabinets that are beautifully refinished and recovered original cushions. It's missing a window and the door window (same windows (Hehr) are still being made). The windows are sealed and do not leak.

I found a little history about this cute camper:

Liberty History:
Columbus Coach Works of Columbus, KS decided to add a trailer to their van conversionline thus "Van Companion" (Liberty, was the floor plan name). the south-east corner of Kansas was already home to several stick-built trailers (Nuwa Hitchhiker, Huntsman, Dreamer, Allstar, Kustom Kamper, so the knowledge and parts suppliers were already there.

The shell was purchased from Amerigo in Elkhart, Indiana, the frame with square tube sewer hose bumper from Young's Welding, same as Nuwa, the windows from Hehr, same as Nuwa, the before its time, fiberglass LP bottle storage cover like the current bigfoot and front window rock guard from Chanute, KS fiberglass, the cabinets like Huntsman and Kustom Kamper, a stick-built aluminum framed trailer door with self-storing screen door by Sailor, the continental tire cover from the conversion vans.

All the interior wood framing came from the stick-built trailer and van conversion industry knowledge in the area. The van conversion industry gave way to the new SUV market, so Columbus Coach went out of business in the early 90's again none of this can be proven just what just have been said by the locals.

It has no title, however the title can be bonded.

Do you have any pics you can post?
Any tested/working appliances such as furnace, ac, fridge etc?
Are the missing windows covered so it is weather tight?

Before and after pictures are in the attachment. Window coverings are weather tight and have not had a leakage issues. The furnace was removed but we still have it and it works. There are no other appliance in the camper. The intention was to build a cooler for when we traveled.

We are selling because we decided that we wanted just a tad more space.

14 Liberty Camper

I am going to check with Motor Vehicle Registration today to see about Colorado Laws regarding licensing.

Is there a possibility of picking this up at a halfway point from Colorado and Wisconsin? I would be willing to pay cash for this little gem!

I don't think we would be able to meet in the middle but I will have to discuss with the hubby to see if we can make the haul.

I want you to be aware the videos are not this camper. They are videos other people have posted of what they did to their Liberty. I have removed them from the post as to not cause confusion. It is a great camper with quite a bit of work done to it. (See attached pdf) in original post of the before and after pictures.

Really nice work and vision for it...too bad it turned out too small for you! It is, indeed, a lot like an Amerigo; can't quite see where the other two feet went. Ours is 16' tongue tip to tail tip...13' inside. It's "just" big enough. Though when we redid it, we shaved a few inches away here and there from what was filling it to give us more passage room for the two humans and two pug dogs who'd inhabit it.

Again, good job, best luck selling.

Kai, the Liberty Van Companion and the Boler 1650 actually use the same mold as the Amerigo FG16. I have been inside all 3 of these neat camper models and love all of three of them!!

John in Michigan,

So far we've never seen another Amerigo or Amerigo-like trailer in person...Peanut is the only one. We'd be very interested to see any of these when chance allows!

BEST

John in Michigan,
Are you saying that the Liberty would have the same dimensions (as far as the shell) as a 16 ft Amerigo? How then is it considered a 14 ft trailer? How about the approximate weight, would you think the weight would be more on the side of a 13ft or a 16ft trailer? There seems to be very little information about these Liberty trailers online and any light you could shine on this would be much appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Joanie, if you could provide the overall length of your Liberty Van Companion from coupler to rear bumper, and also the exterior length of the body, that would be appreciated. Thanks.

Texas Doug: second that! Curious as all get-out as to dimensions and where the other footage went...our 16' Amerigo is not a big trailer. We couldn't lose two feet and still like the configuration. Fascinating about these look-alikes!
