1992 16 ft Casita Spirit Deluxe

1992 16 ft Casita Spirit Deluxe in good condition. Has small solar panel ,fantastic fan and intelligent battery charger. Also has upgraded 14 wheels and Goodyear tires and LED bulbs in the interior lights. This has been a great little trailer for us but now we have a Sprinter RV and it is time to move it on.
Everything except the air-conditioning works ( possible to recharge or replace with small domestic unit). It has a stabilizer that works really well and we tow it with a Jeep Liberty diesel.
The trailer is located in Canada ,Nova Scotia.
I'm asking $ 8000 Canadian.
Thanks
John

Gross weight.

I have never found any sticker on it but I would guess somewhere between 2500 to 3000 lbs. My Liberty diesel pulls it no problem and still gets mid 20's to the imperial gallon.

Question We may be interested

Looks like a very nice unit. My wife and I may be interested. We are located in Vermont USA.

Is the unit travel ready, could we tow it back to Vermont with a reasonable chance of success (Tow vehicle is Ford F150...so no trouble there)?

Not sure how the whole "Customs" deal would work.

What is the condition of the Frame, Tires, Bearings, Brakes and Fiberglass Shell?

Thanks

Ron

1992 Casita Spirit Deluxe

Hi Ron, yes it is ready to travel anywhere. We towed it to Ontario and back last month ,over. 2500 miles, with no problems( slight drip on black tank valve, needs a seal). The frame is very good and made from substantial heavy gauge steel. Tires are good with good tread and no cracking and the brakes and hubs are perfect. The shell is amazingly good for 25 years old with a little Gel coat crazing around the top of the door (very minimal and apparently easy to fix according to my local fibreglass guy) with the rest of the shell looking good and shines nicely with a coat of polish.
This was originally imported from the US but not by me so I would assume they wouldn't object to it moving back there. I have papers in my name and it states the year as 1992 but I can't find any plate on the trailer. From what I've read if it is over 25 years then it is easier to import.
Hope this information is useful.
John

To add, 1992 is right on the cusp of the 25 year window, so you might want to check the actual date of manufacture. There should be a plate on the trailer. I have read different accounts about how fussy the customs agents at the border are, and I'm guessing it varies somewhat depending on the station and the individual agent.

At issue is U.S. DOT certification. Over 25 years, it's not required. Since it's a U.S.-based company and originally sold in the U.S., it might already have the certification sticker. If not and it's less than 25 years old by the calendar, try calling Casita and ask for a letter certifying compliance. You might need the serial number.

Thanks for the extra info.
I,m wondering if anyone with an early 90's Casita can tell me where the ellusive sticker might reside? My thoughts are that it is unlikely to have survived 25 years and a repaint of the frame by the previous owner or maybe Casita stamped the frame with a serial number?
Any help is appreciated

Lost sticker found!

Ok so I searched more carefully and found the plate and sticker covered in paint behind a bracket that had been added for a toolbox over the hitch. Managed to clean of most of the paint with thinner without destroying it completely.
And yes it is due for some fresh paint

I'm going to buy MB Sprinter 4x4 based RV as a main living quarters/TV, but will keep my Scamp 16 to use it as a second bed room when needed. I love my Scamp and will not single it out.
