Trailer: 1972 13 ft Boler American
Posts: 86
Here I am - I joined the forum several weeks ago as I started my search for a 13' trailer. And I'm writing today to say I have found my new project. I have been driving past a yard with a 13' Boler that looked a little beat up... so I put a note on the mail box saying.... I would like to look at your camper, and now I have myself a project that I'm a little overwhelmed with....

She's a 1970 Boler - who I just purchased from the original owner for $750.... she has been sitting in their yard without moving for over 10 years!!! The owner is just happy that someone is ready to refurb her old Baby... and I'm really hoping too...

I got her last night - and she looked like this

after an hour with the pressure washer -

I do admit, I love the lights built into the back-end... makes it look very old!!

I have plenty of work to do, and looking forward to it.....

This seems like a pretty great community! Looking forward to becoming a bit closer....

Thanks
Tim

Hi: Tim... WOW!!! What a find/job. Daunting as it may seem there is nothing that can't be fixed refinished or replaced on these little "Darlin's". What ever you need just say the word and we will respond!!!

Hey Tim Joe here in Florida I have what I was told to be a 1968 boler where the lights are NOT recessed like yours. There is a guy in Ontario named Paul Numiester and he still rebuilds them. To make a long story short he had occasion to came and visit his brother in Naples Fl south of me and he and his lovely wife Marilyn stayed here at my house for 5 days and he is the one that told me what I have..I have some pictures that I will send you before and after....talk to you later.Joe

Hot Darn!
Welcome to the forum. Great find. Looks like you're hooked already. Take it slow and have a ball. Get it into useable shape and camp with it. It'll tell you what it wants you to do next.

Hi Tim
Very happy that you have found a Boler
Can you post a picture of the rear ?
I think you may have a 72 Boler American.
It looked like it have an emblem below the rear window
Did the original owner had the literature or brochure
on your boler?

That's one good eye you have for detail Jean. I think you may be right. There were a couple of trailers that had a similar plastic emblem. I did notice the labelling was different than ours (especially the ones at the wheel wells). Maybe that was from a different plant. Wonder what his Serial # is?

Ya, I think that one may be slightly newer than a 70. None of the other 1970 models I have found have the recessed tail lights......course, I guess they could have been added later....Whats the VIN? My 1970 from the Manitoba plant is #283

Well I'll take a look at my serial number again, but when I looked tat the plate which was on the PORT side, it was around 3000? I'll have to double check?

I did purchase it from the original owner, and she said 1970 - and since she purchased it new, I'm assuming she knew the year? here is the shot of the emblem.

And yes - the famous recessed lights - gotta love them.

I had a ton of photos of when I brought her home and when I started to clean her, but my new Sony 8.1mg camera ended up on the back of my Truck, and well - guess what..... bye bye camera - I drove off that night with it still on the back of the truck- - so I'm stuck with my camera phone....

You are part of a very small group here in fiberglass trailer land. The Boler American of Witchita, Kansas was only built for one year --- 1972. If you are interested in the history you can go to this link. The rights to make them there were only acquired at the end of '71. Did the previous owner have any other indications of memory loss?

Hey, nice pic! Do you know if that's the original color? Someone mentioned a red background which sounded good so I was thinking of doing mine.

Sorry Clive, I don't know if it's original. But basic black goes with everything!

Well given my serial # - in the 3000 range - and the information provided on this site, I'm sure I have a 72 Boler - which is OK... and I'm sure the owner - who is in her 70's might be a bit wrong with the year... we wrote up a Bill of Sale and she is getting a replacement title for me... so I'll let her know when I talk to her next...

Thanks everyone

Tim,

I think there are 2 groups of Boler Americans for serial #'s. Some start in the 3000's others are in the 5000's. All I can come up with is the 3 and the 5 designated where they were built. I'm hoping to learn more about the difference one day.

Wow! Thanks Jean-L. That looks sharp.

That little piece of info could qualify to go into the Boler American history!

My questions is "why"? Different years? Different manufacturing cities? Model? Anyone have a clue?
