Has anyone ever played with one of these DC fridge conversion kits (1, 2)? Just curious at the moment, but I'm thinking one could convert an existing 3-way fridge into a 4-way fridge and get the best of all worlds. Also looks like a good alternative for those who might want to gut out their dead fridge and give it a new life - avoids having to enlarge or reduce existing openings for a different size unit.

I think it would be great, if you can keep the propane part of the fridge going as well. And if you did that might be cramped putting all the other stuff in there for the new. I don't know, have to give it some thought.

These are for converting an Ice Box into a compressor type Refrigerator. I doubt that there would be enough room to put these components into an existing 3-way fridge, without first removing the other components.

humm, I always thought four-way meant: 1) electric, 2) battery, 3) ice, 4) propane

I guess I was thinking about where to put the compressor. The back of my cabinet is quite crowded as it is. How far away can it be installed? Maybe I need to think outside "the box".

I made up the term, so that may be the case. Perhaps multi-way fridge, then.

As to having enough space for it, it seems possible to mount the compressor away from the fridge itself, so I wouldn't see that aspect of it as an obstacle unless everything else is already cramped. And the cooling plates seem bendable to a certain extent. Would have to try it to find out, I guess.

But, but but... I also saw some prices for those conversion units .

On a boat the compressor is put in the bilge.
It is just copper tubing running between the plate and the compressor so it makes no difference where you put it.
