73 Bargman door lock

I am a newbe My first mod on a 73 Ventura

Bargman door lock, Lock itself worked quite well for the age but the Zink stiker was warn down nearly 1/8th in, I stripped lock removed the striker bar [zink molded on steel] have small machine shop, set up & milled the zink striker flat at depth of 1/8in, cut piece alluminium to fit oversise, threaded the striker then screwd it together with JBweld, filed to shape, works well,
I know many would say waste of time, but as long retired I have plenty

Roger, you should have taken pictures of that repair, it would have been interesting for sure. I have an old Atlas lathe and an old Timken milling machine that don't get much use but are handy to have. You can start a business repairing Bargman locks.

The bargmann L400 is a rare beast and a lot of people are looking for them. Even the Bargmann repair kits are next to impossible to find. You could do the rework on the latch with a exchange program if you could find a couple to start with.

a small machine shop amazing! I knew a guy in Canada one time he had a small mill in his apartment and made custom telegraph keys. he sold them all over the world they were made completely out of brass.
