AC opinions?

I notice in the specs that the original optional AC in my Bigfoot 17 was only 7100 btu. Everywhere I look, I can't find a new one under 11000 btu. The main problem I see is that an 11000 btu unit requires more power than a single Honda eu2000i generator can produce, whereas a 7 or 8000 btu might work with the one generator, saving me $900 and a lot of hassles.

I was thinking of searching rv salvage places for an older 8000 btu unit, but I'm wondering what people with the same size trailer think. Is 11000 too much? Is 8000 enough? Can I just use an 11000 and not turn it up too high? (I don't know if they run that way or just cycle from all the way on to all the way off) Then, of course, there is the question of how used AC units age and whether they are even worth buying...

Ken, if you're looking for a low profile roof A/C check out: Low Profile RV Air Conditioner- 9200 Btuh Coleman Polar Cub you can probably buy locally. And it comes with a heat strip.

Hope this helps

I don't know why I didn't see that one. I think because I was searching for 7100 or 8000 btu. Does anyone know if it will run on one Honda eu2000i generator? I got the impression that an 11000 needs about one and a half of them, so it might be close.

I don't know about the generator, I had a 4000 watt Chinese pos that would not start the compressor on my 5th wheel ac, the fan would run but the compressor would not start.

I had the Polar Cub 9200 in my last trailer and my Yamaha 2000 ran it effortlessly, you should have no problem with your honda with the Polar Cub. In fact some people use the honda with the bigger 11000 btu but you need a soft start kit and I think the 11000 is way too big. The Polar Cub was perfect for a 19' trailer

Thanks. I determined that if I do need more than 2000 in a generator, 2 Honda 2000's is how I would do it anyway, so it sounds like trying the Coleman and holding off on the 2nd generator is the way to proceed.
