IIRC Joe, I paid about $75 CDN each (special order when our $$ was not worth as much as today).
There is no difference in the valves so everyone that can fill a 20# should be able to fill an 11#. The difficulty comes to computerized checkouts and they don't have a button or code for the 11# tanks.
Quick check of the web finds 11# tanks for $55 USD at Cabella's and $49 at Ace Hardware. Which is less than I paid for them. Price to fill was less than the 20#, I filled 2 at the same time so I paid a bit more. Still cheaper than using the 1#.
IMO paying up to 75% of the 20# rate might be fair, You are getting 55% of the
propane but labour is the same. It all depends on what you want for the convenience. I'm actually considering getting 2 more since the 20# does not fit under the P/U tonneau and I'm uncomfortable keeping the 20# tank in the trailer while towing. OTOH I have considered making something to fit in the hole for the bumper hitch to hold the tank since I have a receiver below that to tow with.
Decisions, decisions ... 1 way is safer, the other cheaper. Safety prevails, but I still wonder if you are not supposed to transport in an enclosed area what people with cars do. All I ever see is people putting their tanks in the trunk or passenger compartment when they get them filled.
