I was going to replace that plastic plug for one of those Anode rods for the hot water heater... I got one that was for Atwater and its way to long and the bold it to big for the hole? Is there a certain size for the Scamp?? I had to take it back.. but he said it was for that heater..
he thought it wouldnt fit because of the sediment or what ever inside the heater... ?? I am postivie the heater has been replaced as one time the carboard shows water marks.. and it doesnt leak at all now...
I believe my socket to take out the plastic one is 7/8 and this one was to big for the socket...

I don't know what year your Scamp 5er is but mines a 2004. A few months ago I went to check the anode on my Atwater water heater to see if it needed to be replaced and there wasn't one(?), only the plastic plug you mentioned. So I did some research on the Atwater RV water heaters, and it said my model was made of some sort of aluminum casting and it did not need an anode. Maybe yours is the same? Sure made me happy.

thanks Steve.. mine is an 89... i will also look on the Atwater heater site.... I found the first time I drained it tho... some 'sediment' came out with the water.. (like sand) so not sure what that stuff was.... it seems to run clear now when draining... maybe no fiters were used on the campsite faucets at one time.. i have NO idea......
thanks again..

Here is the Atwood heater and some general info. It's Atwood instead of Atwater and it's aluminum clad, I thought it was aluminum casting, my error.

Send a message via Yahoo to Darwin Maring
GoodSam Highways Magazine (may 2008) page 32 states:

Suburban heaters use the anode rod and Atwood does not.

The article further states that should you install a rod in your Atwood heater, it may fuse with the tank and you may "NEVER" be able to get out.

Highways magazine is a great source of information.
