Oh! Interesting. And gorgeous. I would say a flat top, which would make it a '68 but there Are definitely people on this forum that know better than I do about these things. If it WAS 153, you would be in a '69 I think? Maybe someone else knows. Difference from mine: my vent is on the other side of the kitchenette - closer to front, not back. And I don't have the window in the kitchen. Maybe some online research would tell you what year they added the kitchen window? In any case, welcome to the club! Always excited to have new additions!!

It is a very nice boler, that is for sure mine also has the vent towards the front and no galley window. I don't think it ever had the electrical stamp. I did not have much fiberglass on the interior, the benches (front and back were 3/4 inch plywood) I have and will not be restoring to original at any rate, so will/do have some parts parts Facebook is a great resource as well a good many knowledgeable loving people

I'm glad I found this thread.

I also have a flat roof boler that I inherited from my grandparents. From what I do know, my grandparents were the 2nd owners, it was built with no insulation and the number (along the tongue frame) shows 081. There are no other numbers anywhere else inside or outside of the boler.

Does anyone know if the serial numbers went back to 001 in 1969?

Any feedback helps

Thanks,
Cindy

Cindy, if you have a a flat top, you have a 1968 and one of the first hundred off the line. They stopped the flat top mould after the first 100. So your number 81 is just that - the 81st ever.

Thanks for the reply Sooveroo! Oh how exciting I'll try and upload pics of it this weekend. I'm still navigating my way through this site.

Hey Cindy, Steph, and Shelley, a couple things:

1. There is a way to join the Boler-specific group on this page, which I would recommend - all people with Bolers and the information is fantastic.

2. I've started writing the odd camping/boler related article on hub pages. Still new to it but for what it is worth, the link to my article about fixing up my boler on a budget is here: Vintage Fibreglass Trailer Improvement on a Budget . Specifically, can't remember who was saying they were going to glue fabric, but we found the type of glue really made a difference. We used 3M Super 77 and it really made a difference after trying a slightly cheaper version. It's the one I would recommend after noticing what a vast difference it made. Info is all in the article if yo are so inclined to read it.

Tried about 3 times to give a link to the glue and all I end up with is some internet gibberish so the link to the product on Amazon is in the article if you want a photo for reference if you choose this method.

Hello all ye fellow flat toppers

Some added info for previous posts.

I believe the galley window was an option on purchase. Similar to many brands today.

There are quite a few 1969 flat tops with the stamp #'s going up to the 190's. Perhaps there was more than 100 made. 200? Maybe they were produced between '68 and '69. They didn't have production year differences like cars.

My vent is near the rear as well. Sometimes I think it was a real slapdash process in those early years. Mine has quarter round wood for framing in the overhead cupboards. It's also glassed in, not riveted.

The flat protruding hinges tend to be ubiquitous with flat tops.... I think.
