Yup those old Senators know all to well that cross border shopping goes a long ways in helping to their salaries!

Good news. Living in a county whose economy depends a fair amount on Canadian trade, this would have really hurt us. It's already a royal pain in the rear to cross the border. This would have done nothing to improve security and just made travel across the border difficult for law abiding citizens.

Don't get mad Daniel and don't judge all American's by the comments of one.

There are MANY more of us who appreciate and welcome our Canadian neighbors than those who don't.

I'm sure there are a good many business's, Hospitals and Doctors in our border states who appreciate you business especially during our economic downturn.
I'm sure there are many working people who are gratefull because of the Canadian dollars going into their employers pockets.

With our gas up 137% in the last 4 years and food products up 15% to 25% along with virtually everything else it's a wonder we have anything left to offer you.

John

What about the border between Washington (sales tax) and Oregon (no sales tax)?

I've always thought that Washington State should charge their returning residents a toll, a little something to make up for the lost sales tax.

Maybe you should charge us to come home instead... thats what Cuba does

Really what it all comes down too is politicians finding new ways to liberate us from our money. That wouldn't be so bad except here in Canada, at least, when you pay an extra fee in a National Park it does not stay in the park it goes into the federal general revenue.

I have been in some Campgrounds where there is a out of State fee ( i think it was Oregon) and i am okay with that if it stays in the park and does not get siphoned off.

i think we all pay to much in tax already on both sides of the border without them inventing new ones

Oregon doesn't charge an "out of state fee" for the state parks. Washington does though...

I believe the fees we pay in our National Parks also go to the general fund and not back into the parks.

Washington does not charge an out of state fee. At least, not unless it is brand new- I've been out of state there until last year and never paid one.

Lisa, that is pretty much how it works up here too. Any type of fees or taxes collected go into the general revenue bucket, then divvied back out as seems fitting.
