burro skylight vent

Hi everyone. Today I worked hard cleaning my 1982 burro. While cleaning the top I noticed at least an inch of old caulk of different types layered around the skylight vent. Its a real mess. I would like to remove all of it and clean the surface and re-seal the vent. What is the best sealer (caulk) that I should use. All of the different layers have been applied in a really sloppy manner. Any help on a better way to re-seal it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Joe

Head bashing smilie here... I'm betting some of that crappy caulk is silicone

Pull the vent out, scrap all that crap off and reinstall using butyl. You may want to add a self-leveling caulk around the outside over the caulk (or maybe not).

But, you've already found out adding more caulk to something that leaks doesn't help for long on an all-molded-towable. DANG.
