caring for our new baby

we bought a 2002 Casita. I called Casita about getting a cover for it, but the number they gave me the price was out of our budget range. In this economy we have both been given pay cuts at our house, and we want to protect our investment. After all we might be living in it sometime soon. So is there another choice for getting a cover for it?


We are going out in a few weeks for the first time close to home to break it in. I want to get a wax coat on it as I am not sure when the last owners did. Is there something easy for a girl to use? Also where would I go to get the said item?

I so want to get to a gathering but there really are none that are too close to home or we have the constraints of having a job, or in my case 4 of them. Soon to be less I am sure.

Hi: Alexandra B... I recommend a product called Gel-Gloss. Comes in a pink can or aerosol spray (Ace Hdwr. or Lowes or most building supply/hardware stores). It is specially for fiberglass and acrylic. A friend of mine did a 40 footer MoHo and he thought it was easy to use too!!!
Covers I'm not sure of as we have a relative with a cover-all building and "Our Escape Hatch" is tucked in there.

thanks alf that is what I was looking for. I was thinking about going to Camping world for the cover as they have some for under 200, and casita man wants more than 500. Or I could just go to Home dippy and get a BIG tarp, and some rope

Hi: Agin'... I wouldn't recommend the tarp and rope as the wind whips it against the surface of the gel coat and will scuff it badly...ask me how I know!!! Even a large SUV cover with some elastic at the hem would be better I think but the Gel Gloss and then a (Rain X type) wax/wash with U.V. protectors in it after each trip is better... Thats what I use.

Ditto to what Alf said, tarps scratch and I like Gel-Gloss too. Get the measurements of your trailer (width, height, length) and see if you can get a horse trailer cover that will fit. You'll find the price to be a LOT less.

what I was looking for, that is why I like this site there is always a reasonable solution.

It's probably more important to remember that the trailer must be as clean as possible before you put any cover over it. You don't want to embed dirt and road rash into the soft surface of the cover....it would completely defeat the purpose of a cover. So, when you get home from camping... prepare to scrub!

A canopy might be a nice alternative to getting a cover for your trailer. It won't create any scratches on its finish, and will also enable you to get in and out of it (or go camping) without the need to untie anything. It's been the perfect solution for us.





Also, I LOVE Maguire's Flagship Premium Marine wax. Easy to use and gives great results. Good luck!
