Casita Wreckage Salvage

The following was posted on the Yahoo-Scamper Group if anyone is interested:

From: "Karen" <taxshedermist@y...>
Date: Tue Oct 22, 2002 2:10 am
Subject: salvaging parts from wrecked Casita

Had a chance to visit a salvage yard today in Illinois that has a
wrecked 2001 Casita. It was a really sad sight. The owner (Oklahoma
plates) has his settlement and the salvage yard is ready to send the
wreckage to the shredder. He allowed us to scrounge anything off
that we wanted. It is a real mess,I mean really totalled, but I
popped off all the buttons I could from the exterior and Dave got the
regulator off the gas bottles and I think the only piece of any worth
still on it is the fantastic power vent, so we will go back with
tools and remove it. I originally wanted to see if the rear cabinets
were usable, but alas, they are trashed. Nothing in the
shower/toilet is damaged, and all the cushions seem to be in good
shape, so my question is, does anyone need any of these parts before
it gets hauled off? I will be willing to try to dig them out if
anyone is interested.
Didn't someone suggest a swap meet at the Missouri Scamp Camp in June?
Karen

Interesting

Thanks sharing that, Pete. Might be someone here who wants new cushions, indeed!

I'd love to, roy, but...

I don't know any more about it than what Pete has posted here. Pete? Do you have more information for Roy about Karen's post?

Thanks, Pete. Wish I could help, Roy.

Cheers, everybody.... mary f.

The original poster is on the Yahoo-Scampers group. Her name is Karen, but I don't have a telno or email (Yahoo keeps that stuf private). The wreckage is somewhere in Illinois.

Thanks Pete and Mary

Roy got me by e-mail. I spent the day at the salvage yard today taking the pieces off that I could get. I have cushions, toilet, sink & shower, kitchen sink, power converter, power vent and assorted pieces that were not damaged, including shower door, but I left the AC, furnace, water heater, fridge, etc, because they had exterior damage and I wasn't sure if they were worth my time trying to salvage. It sounds like Roy is going to make the trip to Highland Illinois Saturday to take some more off of it. I seriously considered flatbedding it to the farm to work on, but couldn't get enough help to accomplish that task. I am going to take pics of the stuff I have and post here so that anyone who needs what I have can have a chance at it. I don't want to make a lot of money, just couldn't see it all going to the shredder when there are so many that are refurbishing older units that could maybe use these parts at a reasonable price.

Hi Jan,
Don't worry, I won't forget that you spoke for them first. I'll e-mail you some pics tomorrow as soon as I get a-round-tu-it.

Wish I would have had someone to take my pic straddling the top of that egg trying to drill the rivits out of the power vent, or better yet, trying to climb up there. Would have been hellarious.

Karen

shower

Morgan,
I can get a lot of stuff in the baby, but I don't think a shower is one of them. It's for the trailer, as if you didn't know.

Karen,
You amazed me by the minute. I would have liked to have seen that picture of you up there too.
