I usually do it every 4 months on the car, it's outside all the time, and I'm paranoid. I had bird crap eat the clearcoat in a few spots, so I keep up on it.

The reason for Red Max

Our gel coat was in good condition yet I 'red maxed' our trailer because traditional wax required 4 applications a year and never shined as well as Red Max.

We 'red maxed' our Scamp about 2 years ago and it still glows.

It is possible that waxing is produces a 'whiter' Scamp but after 2 years on the road, a loop of the USA including sand storms and hail, a loop of the Canadian Maritimes, a loop to FL and no trailer waxings I can't imagine being more satisfied.

I admit to still waxing our trusty tow vehicle 4 times a year.

Of course each task can have multiple solutions, each producing satisfactory results for their owners.

Yes it's dirty, but 3 yrs later with 6 coats of Red Max.
I'm sold on it. This trailer was completely chalked out when I started.

Besides, you wouldn't have time to wax with being on the road that much!!

Hi Alice,

When you're on the road as much as us, it's interesting how much time you have for the everyday items of life, laundry, shopping and 'waxing'. So many of the nagging items of life disappear, both little and big things are just gone.

Certainly not having to wax adds time to our lives plus there's a measure of 'fiberglass pride' that our rig generally outshines everything in the park except when we're at a fiberglass rally.

On the road for long periods is just a marvelous state, in some sense different from weekend or vacation camping. No having to get home or back to work, just the next trip. We're leaving FL Tuesday but with our trip to Newfoundland dominating our thoughts.

Though on the road a lot, last year we only averaged 30 miles a day towing and about 50 miles a day exploring.

Safe travels to you.

Amen to that!

Each spring I use 3M marine cleaners & wax or restore and wax (a small bottle will last me a couple of years) to get any bad stains off the trailer before waxing and then give it a couple of light coats with a carnauba wax. The trailer gets washed every time it returns from a trip and it may or may not get another wax application before the year is out.

One of my neighbors who works at a body shop and is a hot-rodder suggested the other day that I might want to try using the Mothers® Original Formula Carnauba Cleaner Wax as he seems to think it works well on white cars & has a minor polishing agent in it ..... may give it a try this year.

I've decided to floor wax Scamp with Zep Wet Look Floor wax. Most people here who have used Red Maxx or Poli-Glo or Zep mentioned using the microfiber clothes wrung out to wipe on the product. Has anyone used those little paint rollers with the soft white roller to apply the wax? For those of you who have experienced the process, what are your thoughts on the possibility of using a roller?

Thx for your input.

I think a roller would apply too much at a time and you would probably get runs. I used microfiber cloths and squeezed the heck out of them so they were damp rather than wet. You just want a fine thin layer each time, and not enough to run.

Alice, I'm guessing that the low viscosity of the floor waxes will produce drips from the roller cover unless carefully and sparingly picked up from the roller pan. As I say, I'm only guessing and have not tried this. Paint rollers, pans and covers are pretty inexpensive so may be worth a try. You might also get some stippling from certain roller mops that won't flat out if applied in very hot, sunny weather. I like the proprietary synthetic chamois on foam and wood block from Polyglow. Not cheap at 20$+ but it worked well for me. 8" swath, threaded for painter's pole extension. Reusable if you rinse well, place in Ziploc bag, place in freezer until next needed. Lots of folks swear by microfiber rags. Take your pick.

We put the ZEP Wet Look wax on our Lil' Bigfoot with excellent results. We had just finished stripping off the old graphics and putting on new strips and Bigfoot Decals and had cleaned all surfaces with Bar Keepers friend and a lot of scrubbing.

To apply the ZEP I started with an empty ZEP floor cleaner spray bottle, sprayed the wax on in sections and wiped it smooth with new terry towels. I allowed a minimum of two hours drying time between coats. As soon as the 4th coat went on it popped up with a full shine. Do be careful with a sprayer though, you don't want the wax on windows and trim.

I would NOT use a roller or you will get streaks and running, from my experience.

And here I'm dong mine with Ducky's and and an orbital polisher. I think I'll stick with the old fashioned way for now. More work but I know it will last if I keep a little wax on it. Since mine stays outside in West Texas sun, I'd be afraid of any kind of "coating". Obviously working for those that have tried it..

No roller here. I used a microfiber cloth from the dollar store and 4 coats. Perfect!

Ok then, it sounds unanomous...microfiber cloth it is. I sometimes get hairbrained ideas, but check with those who have more experience before I experiment. I like the spray bottle idea. Tapeing off and covering the windows would prevent any overspray.
Thanks for your input.
