Cleaned up Scamp hinges

We bought a 16ft Scamp about six weeks ago and set about cleaning it up. I wanted to clean up the hinges and the door hold so I bought a few parts and then pulled the hinges off and started cleaning them up.

Now I have them installed along with stainless steel acorn nuts and hinge bolts.

I also installed a new set of door holds while I was at it.

Those hinges look amazing! What product did you clean them with?

I used sand paper starting with 40 grit and worked up to wet sanding with 1200 then polished with rouge. It took a couple of hours while watching tv.

To take the handle off do you need to remove the door lining? Also, which parts did you purchase and where? My husband's 2000 Scamp just came to live at our house and we're doing little things to it; the door hardware would be really nice to clean up. Thanks!

I didn't remove the door handle just the hinges and the catch that holds the door open. I don't think you would need to remove the lining to take of the door handle. I go the hinge repair kit from CampingTreasures.com and the acorn nuts from Lowes.

Christine, hinges unbolt from the inside, you should see the bolt heads just inside the door frame, Remove outer nuts and washers first, same thing on the door. Nice job Eric, I did the same but never polished mine, but after seeing yours I think I will

I bought new hinges from Scamp last year and the acorn nuts are already rusted. I am going to replace the nuts with SS. I'll use your method to clean the hinges. Thanks.
