Compact Jr.
Hi All,
Questions:Where do you all put your spare tire? There isn't room on the hitch, and the door is on the back...
:Can someone point me in the right direction as to what I need to do to check the hubs, will be getting new tires next week, and the trailer will be up on jacks for a day or two...
:The roof vent leaks, and I will be replacing it with one of those little fans, but the problem is the paneling on the ceiling that needs to be replaced. It seems to be glued directly to the fiberglass, and I'm not sure how to take it off.
Updates: I've been cleaning it, but it's not very dirty. I replaced the broken window. I got a new battery today, and found a little porti-potty that is only 12" tall, and fits in one of the cupboards, or will fit under the couch. I got new handles and hinges for the cabinets, and new miniblinds. Also got insurance, although the insurance co. couldn't find it in their blue books, duh. The 110V works, as well as the propane stove. Havn't tested the water yet, but theres not much too it. Will be replacing the screens, and re-caulking around the backsplash/counter. Also will add a 12V outlet and a radio.
Anyway, hope to be ready to pull in a couple of weeks!!! I won't have access to the digicam for a week or so, but more pics then.
Thanks!!!!!
Blossom

Hi Blossom
Some one on the Boler I now own had removed the spare tire and mounted it under the Boler. In my case it works ok.You should be able to get parts to do this from junk yard.
You hubs/bearings should be looked at and bearings repacked.
As for panelling don't know.Hope I helped a little bit.:wave

Paneling on the ceiling. wow, talk about fancy. could you trim the fan out and cover the bad spot? I bet Ray can help you, but he is out buying a trailer this week-end.
and as far a pictures go. you could take them the old fashion way, and scan or have them put on disk. I hate the idea of you not getting before pictures too. that's the best part. :) (well, kind of)
insurance?? blue book?? he has no idea what your talking about. :lol to see his face. :laugh

Spare Tire
In all the trailer towing we have done, I've only had one trailer tire blow out due to a broken beer bottle near a curb. The trailer wheel bolt pattern was the same as our pickup, so I was covered.
You might be able to have your Compact Jr. re-hubbed with the same bolt pattern as your tow vehicle. Then you would have a "reason" to invest in a nice new pair of mag wheels for the trailer, perhaps the same kind as on the tow vehicle so they all matched!!
You could also invest in a small on-board compressor and some tire plugs so you could make repairs yourself on the road. The problem with this is it can be hard to find the puncture without dipping the tire in a water bath. Also, if the tire bead has become unseated from the rim, a small compressor just won't have the air capacity to reseat the bead.
Another idea is to fill the tires with "Green Slime" which can be purchased at farm stores and auto parts. (I've heard you can make your own Green Slime by boiling oat meal in anti-freeze, but have never tried it.) The 4 X 4 magazines have done tests where the stuff would seal the hole a 1/4 inch bullet or nail makes in a tire. If I had my tire filled with green slime and knew I had a puncture, I think I would get it properly repaired as soon as convenient, even though everything seemed to be sealed OK. It just seems like common sense.

Roof leak
My Compact Jr. leaked from around the roof vent, too. One of the big problems with mine is the fact that the pop-up roof section is bowed in toward the middle, and as such holds water. There's no easy fix for that:cry !

Spare
Blossom- you can get a spare tire bracket at most hardware stores that sell car/trailer parts and also stores like Cabelas.
The ones for boat trailers will work as long as your bolt pattern matches. The bracket will bolt on the bumper, or on the tongue depending on which type you get.
Lots of luck with your project

:wave hello, Matthew! Welcome. Take heart, you can get it to stop leaking with a little tenacity.
The previous owners of my TT added a MaxxAir vent cover over the regular vent. As a means to accomplish their task, they used a wood collar. This has caused a sag in mine in the same place as you are talking about, so I know exactly what you mean. I want to redo the area and reinforce it, someday, but I'm not quite ready to do that. In the meantime, there is something called a high flow sealant. Use that stuff liberally and you will stop the leak. It's a mess to work with, but it will stop the leak. The good news is that the brand I used is white and paintable so you can match the beautiful color of your trailer.
Next, you're going to ask me the brand. Sorry, I don't recall, but any RV store will have it and they will be able to help you.
Come back and post often, okay?

I fiberglassed a 3/4" x 2" piece of fir onto the cieling, I used a 1x2" piece to hold it up just slightly "up" to induce a slight curve in the roof.

Fan-tastic Fan and Roof
I bought a Fan-tastic Fan to replace the roof vent ($160US on sale). It weighs about 10 pounds, but they are so great for moving air in the trailer, it should do the work of an AC. I thought about putting metal supports on the inside of the roof, but didn't think of fiberglassing in anything. With the C-Jr I can take the roof off to work on it:) , a big plus! I am sure having fun fixing the trailer up, but am glad that it really doesn't need much work.
Didn't montanasuzy get a C-Jr last fall, how did the fixing up go? And the new one in Illinois, I'd love to see more photos, it looks just like mine.
Back to my homework now, finals in 2 weeks.

spare tire
Hi Blossom -
I know this is an old thread, but I've been gone for about 8 months and just checking out the chats about Compact Jrs/IIs, etc again. Our trailer came with the spare tire just loaded inside on the floor - not a good solution of us! My hubbie has given it a quick fix by storing it between the propane tank and the front of the trailer. He's lashed it to the frame with nylon webbing and it holds just fine. We took it on a trip this last weekend and it didn't budge.

I have the spare mounted under the back of the trailer in our Compact Jr II. This leaves room on the tongue for the blue boy.
