There is an outline of something that was there.. Would it be a range hood? There are no wires.. What kind of vent or hood would have been here?

John, on my 74 Compact II, It is a simple "heat shield" not an actual range hood. Just something to protect the fiberglass.

Thank you - I suspected as much - spent the evening googling - found some images and made some other contacts. I have ideas!.. As I doubt if I'd be able to find a replacement.... - then again I don't really cook - so why worry...LOL..

Here's a photo of the hood from a different angle. My Compact Jr. had a vent hole through the wall above the burners but no exhaust fan. I made a wooden frame to hold two 3" computer fans for an exhaust. I rarely turn them on.

My sister's Compact Jr. has a heat shield like the others pictured. I had thought about adding an "exhaust fan" setup like Tom describes, but now that I know he rarely uses it, I'll probably save myself the trouble...
