We bought a '71 Compact Jr. Not EXACTLY what we wanted; would have LOVED to have seen the UHaul from Western MO before we had bought this! I like the rounded look better, but I do like the bigger bed option in the Compact Jr. The price was definitely right, but we are going to have to do some "updating!"

Does anyone have some do's or don't's with the Compact Jr.'s?

There is a 13' Scamp, advertised in the Coloradan, Ft Collins, CO. www.coloradoan.com-Ft Collins.

Also a 2000 13' Scamp in Burlinton, IA; listed on groups.yahoo.com/group/scampers.

Good luck

I guess I have the same question, just bought one myself..

It was so cute I could not let it go...

One thing I learned right away, get something to stand on to put up the lid.. it makes it a lot easier!!!

Vickie & RG,
Welcome to you both. I own a 1973 Compact Jr. that I've fixed up and enjoyed for 3 years. I don't think there is or was an owner's manual. Feel free to post any questions in the "Owners helping owners" section as Gina suggested. I read this forum several times a day and just found this discussion because it's under "Wanted 13' Scamp".

Here is a list that I downloaded in Oct of 2004 from a post by Bob Clark of Kirkland, WA.

Important information for the safe operation of your Compact Jr. travel trailer.

1. POP TOP OPERATION: NEVER PULL YOUR TRAILER WITH THE TOP UP! Your pop-top raises and lowers on four metal arms that travel forward and backward over many small ball bearings. To prevent the sliding arms from accidentally reversing when extended in the up position, the FOUR SAFETY PINS must be placed through the slot in the sliding arm and the hole aligned directly behind the arm. When the top is in the down position, insert pins through arm slots and hole in the same manner as when in the up position.
When trailer is being towed, the two hold down latches in the front top must be securely fastened. When top is lowered, it is necessary to manually assist the canvas to fold on the inside of the space overhead. ALWAYS RAISE FRONT END FIRST, LOWER REAR END FIRST.

2. The Dining table should always be in the down position while towing.

3. Opening one or two windows slightly will lessen the pressure or vacuum effect and will cut down on dust infiltration and rear door pressure while towing. ALWAYS LOCK THE DOOR WHEN TOWING.
