Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to lock this style of coupler while the tailer is hitched? It is the coupler for the L'il foot. On my Bigfoot I use a locking hitch pin, but that won't work here. I know I can get one of those ball type locks to lock it while unhitched, but it would be nice to be able to lock the trailer to the TV so that I don't have to worry about the trailer migrating while I'm away from the rig if parked somewhere... Not sure, but did this coupler have a key at one time? The original owner never provided a key and I've never seen another coupler this style.
Thanks

It sure looks like this coupler has a built-in lock, and you're just missing the key.

Hi Lainey.

I also have an uncommon coupler style, difficult to lock also. While hitched to the tv I use a bicycle cable lock, trough the safety chain attachment on the T.V. and inside the A-frame on the trailer. Hummm... hard to see from the picture but is your trailer a straith pole ?

I am thinking itis time for a new coupler but a locksmith should be able to fix the lock and/or provide you a key.

Frederick: I am probably missing more than just a key!

So, after some research it turns out that there was a brass barrel lock with a key for this Al-Ko Kober coupler.
I have even found the part number for this (203216)... just can't find anyone in North America that will sell me one! I'll bet Lex has seen these before!

When the brass piece was left in the coupler, the coupler is disabled. Insert key into brass piece to remove. Seems pretty simple.

A new coupler is very inexpensive and pretty easy to install assuming you have ( or know someone) with some basic mechanical skills and a few tools.

Replace it. Couplers wear out. My neighbor had his trailer come uncoupled. As I was welding the new one on he says "I don't understand what happened I have been towing that trailer for 30 years and never had a problem before." LOL I could lock it to the ball and then lift it right off. Totally worn out.

Yeah, and I see the one on your trailer is bolted on Lainey. I think the Reece brand is available at Walmart for $25-$35 for a 3500 lb. Pretty cheap insurance.
