I have seen some fabulous custom painted scenes portraits etc on TT's. I am considering having my Scamp 13 painted. No stealth camping! I am wondering if custom painting--done excellently-adds value or diminishes value for resale{AFTER I die }?So what are your thoughts/experience. Thanks
Elizabeth
I looked at a Sisters on the Fly 16 Scamp several years back and it would have affected the price I offered because I'm not a "Sister" and I'm not "on the Fly" and it would have had to have been removed if I bought the trailer.
I also remember a Casita we listed a few years back with the wildest paint job that Gina recognized belonged to a rock band. Most folks here didn't care for it if I recall.
There have been some well done custom paint jobs as well that really enhanced the trailer and probably would help it sell at a better price.
Since you indicate you're keeping the Scamp till you've passed, I'd say do whatever you want and enjoy it. Let the resale be a problem for whomever you leave it to.
Elizabeth, There is a great post of custom paint jobs on the General forum. Here's a link Custom Paint jobs
As for worry-en about resale, I don't! Somebody will buy the trailer despite the paint job. I see it all the time. Granted I get that Greg wasn't fond of the whole "sistar's" thing................. But I am sure somebody was! So I say, fix/do/ whatever you want to "your" trailer. Make it comfortable for your camping style. And most of all enjoy it! When you and your trailer depart, someone will either buy it cause they love what you have done, or they will buy it and change what you have done. MHO..........................

Thanks Robin--I have tried to post it on that link.
I'm of the same mind, do what gives you pleasure... it's your trailer. However, there are compromises if you don't want a full-blown paint job and choose to save some coin, and that's some great graphics! See that Paint topic for ideas. Too, if you have a gravel shield for the front window, that's a small enough area to apply paint that gives the effect of a picture. IF you need to sell, painting that small area back to white can effectively change the entire look back to stock.

So what are your thoughts...
I think that if you are keeping your trailer until you die, then resale value is of no consideration. [b]Do what YOU like.
If you want to trade trailers often, like some people trade cars so they always have a valid warranty and new equipment, then resale would rank higher and customization is not a good idea.
Thanks Robin--I have tried to post it on that link.
Your Welcome! I think you may have better response here on this post though. Cause mostly that Post was designed as a Show of Painted trailers type of post. Good Luck! Robin
Elizabeth - I say go for it! You only live once! I am a Sister on the Fly and since I have a new 13' Casita, I opted for decals instead of a paint job. I ordered it without decals but if I hadn't, I would have just removed the Casita decals and put my own on. It is so pretty and white with beautiful swirly silver metallic decals. I just love it. However, when it gets old, I am going to paint it a fabulous color - just couldn't bring myself to do it to a brand new camper.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks Patty! I am very excited about painting the Scamp. Do you go to any of the TX Rallies? Maybe we'll meet up. I'll be the one with the scamp that has a waterlily pond on the bottom and some Laurel Burch birds flying around the top! I am also a Fly fisher-spend my summers in Montana.
Elizabeth
Elizabeth, Where in Montana? I lived there for a few years, just moved back to CO in 2005. Had tons of guest who live/winter in TX and summer in MT. Robin

Dillon MT in the southwest part of the state.60 miles S. of Butte(--which has a wal-mart !!!) and 145 mi. N. of Idaho Falls ID. I love traveling back and forth and do different routes each time. Where are you in Co.? I graduated from UNC Greeley. Love Colorado !!!
Elizabeth
We're in Greeley. So obviously you know where we are . Dh is a native and I have lived in Colorado on and off since I was a kid. Our first north/eastern part of Colorado experience, not my fav of the State, but it's nice to be back home. In Montana we owned a big rig park, 5 min from the west entrance of Glacier. Loved MT in the summer, but winters are brutal.........
