Dampness & mildew

I fill a plastic coffee can with kitty liter & put the lid on poke holes in lid & set it in my U-Haul ct13. I change it every few months. I don't have any dampness or mildew or sweating inside anymore. Our rv sets in the sun with no shade all summer long in upstate NY & in Alabama in winter. Give it a try, works for me.

We are in the humid South and I'm going through Damp Rid like crazy. The kitty litter sounds much cheaper - and maybe better! Do you use regular kitty litter or clumping kind?

I would think that if kitty litter was better and cheaper, some company would be packaging it for RVs.

Dry Z Air ( similar, I presume to Damp Rid ) is mostly calcium chloride and some other salts. You don't have to buy it in expensive little packages.
I bought essentially the same product in a gallon jug for much less. Took me a couple years to use it up.

I didn't say it was better but it works for me. I know lots if people who close their homes up for summer in the south & that's what they use, where do you think I learned it from. Why would an rv company package it when it's already out there.

To make money.
And, if it was better and cheaper, they would make money.

Tonya you can use any brand of litter. All I know is in the spring when we leave Alabama to come back north we put a kitty litter container in every room & when we go south in the fall & open up our home we have no mildew or damp smells after 6 months of being closed-up tight. It's a snowbird thing.

Makes no difference to me.

It's obvious; you put the cat inside the can before you put the lid on.

I just looked at the price of Damp Rid vs Dri-Z-Air. No wonder you're complaining about it. I've used Dri-z-Air here in the Pacific North Wet and it's worked great. Only time we need it is during the winter. I keep the trailer vent open and a small window over the stove. In the winter I keep it heated inside. No problems.

Keep air moving through seems to help a lot.

I use two Dri-Z-Air containers in my 17' and after two or three weeks, I dump out a cup of liquid from each ( winter ).
So, I am curious. Where does the liquid go if you use kitty litter and don't change it for months?

Thanks everyone for all the positive feedback. There is no liquid using litter bc litter absorbs liquid. If it clumps just scoop out the clumps. Idk how or why it works but it works for me in my rv & southern home. Thanks again

Steve Hilby do you know how hard it is to fit a 10lb cat in a coffee can, it's really tough & the cat doesn't like it. Lol you are so funny.

Kitty litter is cheaper for the end consumer and less packaging to throw away as in damp rid when making your own container. I like it! Just a little humor here, is it clumping or non clumping!

Thank you for sharing. I live in NY too. In summer I leave the fantastic fan cracked with vent cover over it and obscure window cracked. In winter I close windows cuz mine sits outside with a cover. Wish I could change that, but I could barely afford the scamp let alone a new garage!

Cover?

What kind of cover do you use on your trailer. I've been told not to use a tarp. Would really like to put something on it when not in use to prevent pollen and dust on it.
