Does Casita put a silicone seal on the bench?

Just courious,
When I got my used '98 Casita the benches had a silicone bead along the top and side where the benches meet the sink and cabinet.

I now know that the bench has to be removed to service the battery or work on the water system.

Does Casita do this – or did the former owner get a little over zealous with the silicone?

This might explain why the old battery had several dry cells.

I almost made a boo-boo, then I read your post again.

I don't have silicone over that area, but you have a 13' - so your bench is next to the sink like the Liberty is.

In that case, it is very likely that they did put silicone on the bench there to keep any splashing water out of that space.

Patriot owners? What about it? That would put water very close to the electrical stuff, right? So, yes, they probably did.

On my 2000 Scamp side dinette, the rear dinette benches do have a bead of silicone on their forward edge. I would expect a Casita to be the same.

If you need to remove the bench, it is no big deal to slice through the silicone with a shop knife. Cleanup of the oild silicone, re-installation isn't too hard either.

When we bought our 13 foot Casita there was a little silicone in the corner next to the wall. I removed it when I checked the battery and never replaced it.

The only thing that would get wet if water ran down between the bench and the sink cabinet is the carpet and some wires that are insulated.

My 91Scamp13 also has silicone seal applied between the benches and the kitchen and closet.

2000 16' Casita LD.... they used an automotive type trim molding.

No silicon here. :)

My 1970 Boler had a plastic trim molding between the fiberglass seats and the adjacent cupboards and floor
