Dometic frig extended warranty?

Just looking at the "offer" from Dometic to extend the warranty on the frig (RM2410.2RX) in my new Scamp 16 for an additional 3 years (so 5 years total),
for $170. From reading through the forums I get the feeling that repairs on a frig < 5 years old is unlikely but just wanted to get thoughts from others with more experience. This is the 4 cu.ft. 120V/LP (no 12V) model. Thanks.

Purchasing any kind of extra warranty (in any area) is like throwing money to the drain.

More and more I'm finding warranties are just an argument waiting to happen. OEM's are better than third party but even there, class action law suits seem to be common. And then there is the mouse print. All 10 pages of it. I'd keep the $170 as "self insurance". Raz

Well I am just replacing my Dometic 12V refrigerator after 4 years for $1,100 (ouch), that warranty would have saved me big dollars!

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like you have a compressor fridge? What failed? Raz

Extra insurance. I never do but in my case maybe I should have. My Scamp frig failed in the first 5 months. All the cooling liquid leaked out. It was covered but what about the future? I can't use it now and my policy runs out in May right at the start of camping season.
