I also installed a dead-bolt above the stock door handle. I was able to get one keyed with the same key as our house key.

We had the same problem. When we went around a curve in the road I could see the door swing open.
The latch bolt was worn and the plate it made contact with was also badly worn. A new slightly bigger striker plate fixed that problem.

Jonathan, hope you've got this figured out by now...yes indeed a bungee of sorts works quite well. This I have done for 12 years on my ECO, however since painting this bubble recently I did not want to merely upgrade to a "NEW" bungee. I thought the little bugger needed something nice! After tweaking, tightening and leveling, I certainly noticed a fair amount of wear on the latch itself, in fact it was razor sharp from all the up and down pruning. Not to mention it was quite dangerous entering and exiting...also the whole mechanism needed tightening toward the striker...however before all this adjustment I simply purchased from McMaster-Carr a flexible pull strap with stainless latches...it not only works well but flexes with the ride and is quite secure. Hope you can make out the fotos....Jeff Isaacson
