Now that I see the photos, I understand the OP's beef with the Scamp's hardware in question. The
Scamp may be a fine trailer and a great value, but clearly all trailer manufacturers occasionally take shortcuts that may or may not be palatable to consumers. Some of these shortcuts provoke frequent discussions in various RV-oriented forums and this instance is no different.
Obviously the door handle is chrome plated but the other hardware looks like zinc plated mild steel rather than aluminum, and yes, it looks like crap. The door holder catch appears to actually be rusting inside, suggesting a poor quality plating job.
I'd be a bit peeved too if I had a near new trailer of any kind that had hardware degrading this quickly. I think the OP's first post asks a legitimate question which was, "Has any one else seen this happen to their RV?" If this happened to my "new" trailer (regardless of brand) I'd be asking the same question to see if it was a common problem or if I had a unique situation. Obtaining satisfaction from the manufacturer might take a different tack depending on which situation applies.
