Front top bunk on Trillium 4500

I bought a 15' trillium that is missing the top front bunk. I want to make one out of plywood but notice that the distance from the hinge to the top of the bottom bunk is 23" and the width required for the top bunk is at least 29" in order to meet the supports for the poles. Is the top bunk hinged in the middle? If so, with what?

On my 4500 the bunk was hinged about 10" from the front edge?
Then when collapsed it folded back under the back to make the back angle for comfort.
There was a full length piano hinge connecting the two and when made as a bunk the support poles went to the small front part whose hinge had to support the weight while flat.

Hope this makes sense?
I never used it as a bunk and I may be able to find a pic....but maybe not?

Thanks Ed: That is the way I pictured it to work but I wasn't sure that the piano hinge would bear the weight. I am taking the grand kids camping and they are small so I should be ok.

The supports fit into shower curtain rod holders that are still available in the plumbing section of most hardware stores
