Fortunately the news regarding the Scamps demise is premature.
State farm totalled our
Scamp and then we had to determine its worth.
This came to $950-quoted from a big RV dealer. If we wanted to keep the
Scamp we had the option of buying it back at the $500 salvage price. Total Deal: 950-500-250 deductible= approx $200 back to us or basically the cost of the two new
tires.
I argued that their $950 was too low, if I was to advertise one at that price our phone would ring like crazy. I suggested she call
Scamp for a more realistic price- she did and the new quote was for a 1980 Scamp about $2150.
So the haggling was worth $1300 for our pocket.
The State Farm people were very good to work with and they were open to suggestion. A word of warning- no one knows anything about Scamps-so if you're in the same boat refer the insurance people to Scamp or a dealer who works with these little guys.
We insured our Scamp for about $30?/ year with a $250 deductible for Comp. It may have been $20/ year. Anyway, it was not much cash.
