I haven't used an electric blanket or pad - but have used an electric oil radiator when hooked up. I love that - can control the heat and it makes no noise.. the problem I had was that it was too big.

But finally - Home Depot has a half height oil filled heater - with a timer with up to 92 on/off setting combos.. (a little much) but the size is great..

great heat - no noise....
