Hot water Heater

On July 12, we will be headed out for semi dry camping. The place we are going has water hook-up, but no power. My question is.......can we successfully light off the electronic hot water heater on the battery power? Does the fridge have to be off line to light off the H20 system? We have a 2002 17LD. Will the hot water system draw down on the battery real hard? I looked in the Casita manuel, but could not fathom an answer. Robert Elling

Robert.

Someone will be along soon that can give you a positive answer.

If the water heater uses propane it really should only draw much electricity when you are igniting the propane

The refrigerator, and propane fired water heater will both run at the same time.

Call Casita

Sorry, we weren't forunate enough to get the electronic ignition. But call Casita's 800 number in the morning. Jay or Chuck will handle your question(s) without hesitation.

As to the fridge, as Nick has already said, they operate independently and you'll have no problem using both at the same time--and your range top, and your BBQ too!

water heater

We have a 2002 17' SD and have the electronic ignition W/H and we use it when we dry camp with no problem and you don't have to turn off the refrigerator. After the water get hot and we have had our showers we turn the W/H off don't need to have it comming on if you don't need hot water.
I allways have the battery charged and ready to go, I also put a bigger battery in the # 29 has more power last a little longer have camped for three days with out any problems.
Have fun on your camping trip , we go on July 20th. Jay

29 is the next larger size battery that fits in your Casita. It comes with a 27.

These are BCI (Battery Council International) group numbers, they specify the dimensions of the battery. See this chart:

Hot water heater ignition

Robert, if you are using propane to heat the water all the electronic ignition does is supply a spark if the flame goes out. It probably doesn’t draw any current at all since it just an momentary spark.
