Hot water tank maintenance

So I drained my hot water tank and flushed it 3 times with water but it still seems to have sludge at the bottom. Should I buy a flushing tool like this ?
http://www.amazon.ca/Camco-11691-Wat.../dp/B002XL2IBS

I also purchased a new anode rod that seems to have a longer thread than one that was in there and does not seem to screw in quite as nice as the one that was in there, I am a little afraid that I may strip it if I force it in.

Any suggestions or advice would be helpful.

I own this tool. It was recommended by a friend here and it really helped flush out particles. Water heater will always have a couple of quarts of water left in the bottom even after draining. But the tool you're considering does help force out gunk and spiffy things up in there. It's, as I call it, cheap and cheerful! Go for it!
